Top neighbourhoods in Tokyo

Shinjuku

Shinjuku's neon-soaked streets pulse with energy from dusk till dawn. This Tokyo powerhouse mixes business with pleasure as skyscrapers tower over Asia's largest entertainment district. Browse massive department stores like Isetan by day, then dive into Kabukicho's countless bars and clubs after dark. Don't miss cultural gems like Hanazono Shrine tucked between the urban chaos. Getting around couldn't be easier with the world's busiest railway hub connecting you to everywhere in Tokyo. Choose from business hotels in gleaming towers or budget-friendly capsule accommodation. The area buzzes with authentic cultural experiences from rickshaw rides to artisan workshops where you can watch masters practice centuries-old crafts. Dining options range from tempura houses to soba shops, with street food vendors offering affordable local treats. Traditional ryokan inns and boutique hotels let you sleep on tatami floors with futon beds. The area is highly walkable with excellent subway connections, making it easy to explore this cultural time capsule at your own pace.

Shinagawa Prince Hotel

Shinagawa Prince Hotel

8/10 Good
"The hotel gym was great and was bigger than I expected. The swimming pool required a fee, so we were not expecting to pay extra for that. The room was a good size, definitely dated but it was clean (though smelled a little like old cigarettes) and we had a nice view of the city. The location is excellent as it is so close to Shinagawa station. Overall, I would recommend this hotel and stay there again."

Hotel Metropolitan Edmont Tokyo

Hotel Metropolitan Edmont Tokyo

10/10 Excellent
"The Hotel Metropolitan Edmont was an amazing choice to stay in Japan, eapecially for a solo traveler. The rooms were the perfect size for one person, cleaned daily, had a good stock of water bottles that was replenished every day, fresh towels, and the staff kept you up to date on things like windowcleanings and changing your sheets (they would do it on request or every 3 days by default). I was on the 11th floor and never felt like it was difficult getting up and down the floors every time I'd keave and come back. I also had an amazing veiw of downtown Tokyo from my window! The hotel is located just a few blocks away from 2 metro stations making it super easy to get to places like Asakusa, Shibuya, and Tokyo Station super quick. There's also plenty of restaurants, several convenience stores (including a Family Mart right ght iutside the front door that's open 24 hours a day) and a really good coffee spot all within a short walk from the hotel. The check-in process was super easy and smooth, as well as check-out. I didn't have the availability to use the amenities while I was there due to time constraints, but they offer things like a laundry room, several restaurants, aswell as room service. Overall, my experience at the Hotel Metropolitan Edmont was amazing and made my first trip to Japan seamless and a lot less stressfull!"

"The Villa Fontaine is clean, fairly well located and friendly. We stayed here almost ten years ago and the breakfast options were much better then. Their cooked breakfast remains good but the fruit and pastries are very disappointing. But still…you can walk to Ginza and the glorious chaos of the area around Shimbashi station is fun."

If you are arriving from Narita Airport, the Airport Limousine Bus takes you directly to the hotel for approximately ¥3,100, which is both convenient and reasonably priced. The hotel also offers complimentary shuttle buses to Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea. The nighttime view of Tokyo Skytree, the world’s tallest tower, is absolutely spectacular. Complimentary bottled water is provided in the room each day, along with quality toiletries, body wash, and shampoo. The beds are medium firm and comfortable. Even the elevators are exceptionally smooth and quiet. You can barely feel them moving between floors. The breakfast buffet is well worth it. It includes freshly made omelettes, bacon, sausages, fries, rice, steamed vegetables, fresh fruit, bread for toast, miniature croissants, cereals, tofu, candied yams, smoked salmon, and a wide selection of coffees, teas, and juices. The hotel’s other restaurants are also very good. The location is excellent. There is a 7 Eleven directly across the street, a shopping mall about 200 metres away, and Kinshicho Station is only a short walk from the hotel. Sumida City feels safe and has plenty to see and do. There is also a laundromat around the corner that is open 24 hours. This is a great place to stay during a Tokyo vacation. It offers convenience, comfort, excellent transportation options, and one of the best views."

4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Tokyo

  1. Book for the cheapest times: The most budget-friendly time to visit Tokyo is during January, February, and September, when hotel prices tend to be lower. For an affordable trip that allows you to explore the city's rich history and culture, a stay of at least 2 to 3 days is recommended. This duration will give you the opportunity to visit significant landmarks, such as temples and monuments, as well as delve into the local culture through museums and architectural marvels. Furthermore, you can enjoy Tokyo's vibrant shopping scene and beautiful natural parks, making your visit great value for money. With a little luck, prices might drop even further during these months, making it an ideal time for those travelling on a budget.
  2. Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: To uncover last-minute deals to Tokyo, consider exploring the Deals or Last-Minute Deals sections on Hotels.com, where you may discover significant discounts on accommodation as your travel date approaches. Additionally, enabling email alerts or push notifications can keep you informed about flash sales and special promotions, helping you secure cheap Tokyo hotels. For a more informed choice, the Smart Shopping feature in the app allows travellers to compare hotel prices and amenities, ensuring you’re updated on any price drops or new availability, making it easier to snag a great rate for your last-minute getaway.
  3. Be flexible with dates: Prices can fluctuate depending on factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year, so being flexible with your travel dates may help you save on your stay in a Tokyo hotel. For those seeking distinctive accommodations, boutique hotels can provide a more personalised experience and potentially better value. When you book through Hotels.com, we'll inform you whether the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. If the price is on the higher side, we’ll suggest alternative dates that may be more affordable, helping you to secure the best deal possible.
  4. Consider your location: Hotels situated near the city centre usually tend to be more expensive. However, thanks to Tokyo's outstanding public transport system, you may discover a more affordable independent hotel located further afield that is still well connected. For those interested in exploring alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there is often excellent value to be found. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
