Gnats issues
We arrived at the hotel late so it was a last minute booking as my friend booked her stay here. I was not ready for the kitchen area though. Gnats everywhere! It was disturbing and disgusting. Guests had washed dishes and left them on the dish rack instead of drying them and put up. But that was not the issue. The issue was not able to find silverware and when I did (in the dish rack), they all had food still on them! Had to rewashed silverware, dishes, and mugs. I know this had nothing to do with the hostel itself as two older women in the living room area decided they want to hold a conversation and spoke over the television show. The whole entire time! Lockers are good. I was a little creeped out here and some time during the night became even more creeped out when one of the other guests in the room woke up screaming as if something touched her. Our room was also hot and they turned the fan on. I'm not sure if the fan came with the room. ***If you are coming in a car, the hostel is in an alley way. That means you must find parking somewhere on the main road, take your belonging to the hostel, take a lift, and you must come down to find parking. If you are coming at night, you can park your car for free on Dixon St until 8 am. I originally pulled into a little divet by the mechanic shoppe on Manners St (directly opposite the alley way the hostel is located) to drop off luggage.

Good enough, really
Trying to find the hotel's door was tricky as it is in a laneway or alley. I only just realised after the fact that they had large signs on top of the building once I stepped out to explore the Wellington area (you wouldn't see those if you were walking in the same side of the building, but you can see them clearly if you were across the street). Coming up to reception, I was greeted by a shabby looking lift cab, which I wanted to forgive if not for the strewn fast-food containers in each corner. The first room I was assigned to was supposed to be a queen bed room, but it was yet to be cleaned. I had checked in at 7pm; exhausted after a day long trip and seeing an unmade bed and dirty effects not my own making was not a great thing to behold. Thankfully the receptionist gave me a key to a different room. Which didn't work so I had to lug myself back to her to swap keys for ones that did. At least now I had a clean room, and some relief. (I won't whine too much about the wet spots in the carpet, I'm just grateful it didn't smell) A highlight though is that the common baths and toilets were kept in pristine condition. And the common kitchen was also spotless. The WiFi was fast. Although I think I was connected to a different network, not the one that the hotel actually hosted.

Absolutely Horrific
There couldn't have been much worse about my stay. Nobody was in attendance at the reception at check in time - so we were locked out the building for a good 20 minutes. A kind resident let us in, however, still nobody was at reception for some time. The number to call made no help. The receptionist had no sense of urgency, did not apologise for the delay. When we finally got out room, it absolutely stunk of cigarette smoke and so I insisted on having our room changed. The room was dirty, unpleasant, no windows, or any ventilation. The bed was uncomfortable, and lacked basic amenities. The shared bathrooms were disgusting. To make matters worse, within 10 minutes of getting into the room, the entire building was evacuated due to a false fire alarm, with plenty of firetrucks in attendance. Unfortunately due to the conditions of the booking, we could not get a refund, but if it was refundable, we would have been out of there before we even got to reception. Wifi was insufficient too. Avoid at all costs.

Literally stinks of Body Odor
I will never stay here again. When I stay at a backpackers I only need it to be cheap, clean and available at the last minute. Laneway delivered on cheap and available at the last minute, the staff that i met were also friendly and great to chat with. Unfortunately the place was simply unhygienic and gross. The listed photos mislead as to how much space is actually in the rooms. The place is humid and somewhat sticky, you can’t open a window to let in fresh air, there’s caked up mold in the bathroom, they had one male toilet for about 20 rooms worth of people, the hallways stink of body odour and this permeates throughout and I suspect that mites are living in the common room furniture. I stayed for a week, thanks for having me, I won’t be staying again.

Filthy, smelly and frustrating
Booked a doble room for two nights, what a regret. It’s by far the worse hostel I ever stayed, the location is the only positive thing you could say about it. First is a hassle to get in you have to use a intercom and ask for the reception to let you in as the lifts need a key to operate. At the reception you can feel that smell of rotten stuff and the apatic front desk people just tops up. Room had a sticky carpet only stood once with bare feet terrible my room didn’t have a window wich tou could open so equals stinky and hot. Kitchen is poorely equiped and seems never been cleaned each open drawer was a punch of rotten smell and believe me there was rotten stuff in it totally revolting not to mention the fridge arghh! Totally unnacepptatle I never thought I would come across a filthy slung like stablishiment in New Zealand. STAY AWAY!!!!!
