Excellent breakfast and great view
This is a student hall of residence, open to others when students are not in residence. The building is about 10 years old and is in reasonable condition. The location is about 15 minutes walk - a steep uphill - from the centre of the city. The property offers amazing views of the city, particularly from the large light and airy dining room. A good buffet breakfast is available. It is also possible to purchase lunch and dinner. There is good wifi throughout.

Clean massive room with ensuite and basic kitchen facilities in the room. Good breakfast every morning and 24 hour access to coffee machine. Staff were friendly. Only downside is that no full facilities for cooking. Only a microwave in the room so no way to really cook anything. Great value overall

Poor 2.0
Bad luck - DO NOT STAY at TE PUNI
I've stayed in cheap hostels better than this place. A good hostel like YHA is a 5 star hotel compared to Te Puni. It is good for students that can't afford a better place to stay...It really shouldn't be advertised at Hotel.com like a 3 star accommodation. The room wasn't clean, the linen was all worn out with lots of holes on it and the bathroom smells bad. The advertise says it has cookware, kitchen in the room but it is far from the real stuff, the room has no cookware, the microwave was broken and it had no stove, no plates, glasses, no crockery at all. How can you stay in one place that has a kitchen that is not functional, with no shared kitchen facilities, no shared room, no TV, almost a St Francis monastery. Tell me about the continental breakfast, it was a joke, seriously, two bowls with cereal, milk and canned fruit like a prison. Couldn't stand this place more than two nights paying NZD71.00 a night. So, I talked with the manager asking nicely to cancel my booking because the place was from far distance within an acceptable standard for a Hotel and he agreed, cause he knew it was true but, after two week Hotel.com sent me an email telling that Te Puni, the hotel, wouldn't accept my refund...it was outrageous and a disrespect with me as a customer. Fortunately I called Hotel.com, explained the situation again and they took full reponsability and the loss for it and refund me the money. Thanks Hotel.com...Shame on you Te Puni and Te Puni accommodation manager.
