Good 6.0
Nice hotel right in the centre on Manchester. Perfect location. Easy check in and friendly staff. Bed was super comfy. Power shower was heaven! I also like it that check out was 12, seems rare nowadays. Downside - the rooms are soooo unbelievably dark, hardly any lights. If you have dark items of clothing, you couldnt even see them on the floor it was that dark! Also made it impossible to get ready, see in mirror, do make up etc unless in bathroom and, when there is 2 of you that need the bathroom, it makes it a bit difficult. I would recommend putting a few extra lights in the room. The bathroom looked tired and showed signs that it maybe needed some tlc. Black patches inside the bath, parts had chipped away near the plug. Floor tiles and general round the edges/corner of walls dirty/come away. The heating/air conditioning unit was sooo loud. I woke up in the night to turn the heating on, and all I heard for the rest of the night was a banging/clanking noise that kept us awake. And I’m not even sure it worked! We stayed in Manchester a few months ago in a hotel that cost half the price and to be honest, in my opinion, the rooms were a lot better. A bit of a shame really as Iv heard so many good things about malmaison hotels, and this experience would probably make me think twice about staying at another one. I wouldn’t mind but for the price you pay, i would expect better. Overall friendly staff in a perfect location but room/s could do with some attention.

Fair 4.0
Not very good at all.
I was expecting a very comfortable room to relax in and get a good night's sleep, however this was not to be. Firstly, it is obvious that guests can be heard in other rooms and so the level of noise solely depends on the type of guest in the vicinity of your room. Unfortunately, the room next door decided to return at 1am and have a party. I did complain to reception, and this was rectified (thanks), however, even with their music/talking at a reasonable level was still loud enough to hear and be disturbed by. Secondly, the air con! Even when in idle mode/turned off, the humming was very loud and kept me awake. Worse still, every 10-15 minutes the air con would turn on automatically and heat the room up to an unbearable degree. This went on all night! I fell asleep at 4am. Coupled with the fact that it turns your mouth into a desert, means that I was not impressed! Other issues: 1) The tea/coffee/kettle were in the cupboard and the latter had to be plugged in on the floor either by the door or under the desk. Not the ideal place for boiling water, or for people with decreased mobility. 2) The plug/overflow in the bath was broken and fell apart at the slightest touch. 3) The room was not especially clean. 4) The bed was very soft and not comfortable at all. 5) There was only 1 bedside table - it looked like the other one was missing since there was definitely space for it.

Mal maison more like "meh" maison
Visited over one of the busier weekends of the year but was pretty disappointed with my stay, firstly the room I had requested and had confirmed for me was not available (I'd booked 6 months in advance). I had rung the hotel personally to ensure that I would have a low level shower due to partners disability this was confirmed and noted on my booking however when I got there was given a room with a bath and shower and told there was no other rooms, they could have told me that months in advance but the room we were given with the shower had a huge step to get in, this meant my partner was unable to use the shower/bath so relied on washes from the sink. Also the king room was not king atall but a twin with both beds pushed together (which kept coming apart). The room was dusty and even after cleaning on all days the bedside tables were covered in dust. There were cigarette butts all over the outside window cill (from previous occupiers) and not keen on the way they leave mini bar items all around the room, you could quite easily think they were complimentary especially when the room for 3 nights was nearly £600. Bar service was fine however staff seemed new as had my drinks spilled 3 times by staff but no replacement was given just a "I'm sorry" Would not stay here again, visit manchester often and there's better hotels for less money readily available, only stayed here this time as wanted something a bit more special but has left a bit of a "meh" taste in my mouth.

Poor 2.0
Unruly Guests
Upon arrival the hotel and staff was lovely, The room immaculate if not a little on the small side and the bathroom an odd layout with the taps to the bath being behind the splash screen which meant you had to get out of your bath top the water up. However during the night there was some unruly guests on our floor and in the next room which awake our sleep at 4am, called security and 10 mins later sorted....for it only to start again. Called security once more and finally the situation was sorted with the unruly guests. However by then I could not get back to sleep after being kept awake for over an hour. The next morning there was sick around the hotel corridors and by the lift. I don't expect this from an upmarket hotel - I expect this at premier inns - as to why I booked Malmaison for a treat - which turned out to be a nightmare and left a bad taste in my mouth after only 3 hours sleep. As we checked out the hotel staff apologised but sad they could not offer anything as I had pre-paid. Well we won't be doing that again at Malmaison nor probably booking again.

Very good 8.0
Nice hotel, shame about SOME staff
The staff members at the main desk were dismissive when we checked in and dismissive when we checked out. If it was not for the doorman, the restaurant staff and the bar staff, this could have ruined our stay. Those other staff members were courteous, polite, attentive and definitely what we would expect. The hotel needs more of those types of friendly and helpful staff members and less of the arrogant ones that were on reception. As for the hotel itself, it is an oasis in a sea of blandness. The room was different, in a good way, down to the decor and layout. The food was fantastic, worth going for a meal, even if you're not staying there. The breakfast was great too. Maybe putting the comment about the reception staff at the front of this review will make the hotel managers consider training for said staff, after all they represent the first impression of the hotel. Improve on this and those that don't write a review but would have complained to others will be more likely to praise what is otherwise a decent and potentially a fantastic hotel, with otherwise fantastic staff.
