2/10 Poor

CATS, CATS & MORE CATS. Counted at least seven and likely more. If you are allergic to cats you will suffer as other guests are letting them in the rooms. They are everywhere, large (>20 pounds) and very aggressive. They jump on your lap if you are in the outdoor recliner and if you open a plastic bag they rush you expecting a treat. Had to sleep in the car the second night due to allergies.

Spectacular property! Owners gave us so many helpful tips and advice for the things we had planned and restaurants to go. The cats were SUCH a delight and the views and ambience of the place are amazing. Would highly recommend this place for a Hilo stay if you are looking for a place away from the city and in a tropical area. Thank you both for this stay!

Good find on Hamakua Coast
Perfect location along the beautiful Hamakua Coast! So lush and green. We can not stayed one night but right away I could tell this would be a good place to use as home base for a longer stay. The unit was perfectly appointed and the patio very relaxing with great views. The common area looks excellent, although we didn’t use. Some interesting books I would have liked to sit around and read. Short stay but I liked it.

Mahana House was a lovely, well-appointed lodging. The room was very spacious and comfortable. We enjoyed the comfy robes, lanai for morning coffee and evening cocktails, and the yummy fruit we picked on the farm. The shared kitchen and laundry had everything we might have overlooked. We even enjoyed fresh homemade banana bread from the housekeeper, Val. We grabbed a cooler and beach towels for day trips. We were able to do laundry before leaving. The nearest restaurants were back in Hilo, but the drive was easy and scenic. If you are looking for a relaxing, comfortable place to stay, then Mahana House will be perfect for you.

This property was beautiful, quiet and the staff is amazing. Its a little drive to Hilo but worth it. So much to see and do in the area. They also have a book in the room that is a wealth of information about the area. It is available to buy and we advise to get a copy. We highly recommend cottages to anyone traveling to the area.

We stayed 3 nights @ the cottage. The property is well kept, the room is spotless, very nice decoration. The room looked exact like in the pictures. You can watch the sunrise from your beautiful patio. You can cacth those birds singing if you are an early morning person. We will definitely stay here again if we revisit the island.

Serene & quiet
Serene location about 25 mins from Hilo town. A few rooms/cottages in a huge property. Very peaceful and quiet! Cottage had a kitchenette & huge lanai with peek-a-boo ocean view (on a clear day). Parking just footsteps from the front lanai.

Perfect gem on the Hamakua Coast
Stellar experience staying in one of the cottages. The unit was spotless, thoughtfully designed (wife and I are architects), featured amazing views and had everything necessary for a very comfortable and relaxing stay. Friendly cats and fresh longan from the surrounding orchard were a delightful bonus.

Located out of the city a ways and not easy to find but the owner provided simple specific directions to get there. Apartment was attached to a large house which was used for a common meeting area for all to use. It had a large kitchen with about everything you would need.

Lovely stay at the Mahana House! Randy was extremely helpful and even had eggs available for us to make a delicious breakfast in the morning in the shared kitchen space. We also enjoyed our walk around the farm and had a beautiful evening in the patio. We were fortunate to have mostly quiet space to ourselves, but in the morning the neighboring room had a very loud guest who disrupted the morning sleep. But, as long as there are conscious guests next door all should be well! Wonderful stay!
