You can stroll along Reykjavik Harbour for relaxing water views when you're in Vesturbær. Our travellers also like the museums in the area – your cultural tour starts here. It's also full of great shops and restaurants, so you can spend the afternoon having a wander.
If massages and hot tubs are your thing, you might want to pamper yourself at Blue Lagoon, a popular spa located 2.5 mi (4.1 km) from central Grindavik. Our travellers also like this walkable area for its restaurants and port. If you like Blue Lagoon, you'll love Hafnaberg Cliffs, just a short drive away.
Listen to the relaxing sound of the water and take in the views at Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, one of the most popular spots located 32.8 mi (52.8 km) from central Hofn.
During your trip to Reykjavik, you can search for that perfect souvenir at Laugavegur. Discover the lively bars in this walkable area or seek out the local tours.
"Fosshotel Barón fit our needs perfectly. My family of 4 (parents, 10 and 12 year-old boys) needed a place to stay for 1 night in Reykjavik at the end of our week exploring Iceland. We had the family suite with 1 king bed for us and another room with bunk beds for the kiddos.
Other than our room not being quite ready at the 3pm check in time, the hotel was perfect. They were very accommodating in allowing us to store our luggage at arrival and at departure. Everything was comfortable. The location was near (but not right in the middle) of the shops/restaurants of downtown Reykjavik. The breakfast was pretty standard hotel stuff.
All in all, nothing spectacular but perfect for what we needed. "
"We had a great stay at Midgardur. The location is excellent, easy walking distance to dozens of restaurants and shops. The Reykjavík Kitchen is across the street and was fantastic. Also steps away is a food hall inside a renovated bus station with many options including delicious pizza, beer and ice cream. Laugavegur is a quiet one way street and it’s an easy walk into the CBD.
We stayed 5 nights total, 2 in a standard room and 3 in a deluxe. The price difference for deluxe is definitely worth it. The standard room was tiny and hard to fit all of our luggage but the deluxe was huge by European standards.
We booked some nights through Expedia and some directly through the hotel. Booking direct gets you complimentary breakfast (otherwise 25 euros pp) and use of their spa. The breakfast was a large spread of fruit, pastries, toast, eggs, bacon, sausage, oatmeal, yogurt, pickled herring, etc. If you don’t want to pay 25 euros, there are great cafes nearby and a fabulous bakery with a line out the door called Braud. The price on Expedia was lower.
The staff were very kind and helpful. We arrived at 9:30am and were able to check in around 12:30pm (early check-in is complimentary if you book direct; regular check in is at 2pm).
There is still ongoing construction next door and it was loud during the day.
There’s a fantastic laundromat (Laundromat Wash) a 10 minute walk; much cheaper than the hotel.
Overall we were very happy with our stay and highly recommend Midgardur.
