The hotel was very cute inside and it was clean. Loved that it’s so close to the pagoda. The only complaint I have is that the dryer was clearly broken because it made a very loud noise when in use. I was trying to take a nap and it was so loud it woke me up. The dryer also took a very long time to dry my clothes in a small load, so you need to be prepared to spend a good amount of time to do any loads of laundry. The staff was very friendly and I liked the lounge/bar area. Another negative would be that there is a bright light that shines in the window by the front door all night and there’s no curtains to block it out.

Great hotel in a stunning location. It may not have the facilities of a 5 star hotel but the rooms / service are first class

Loved it.
Incredible location, helpful staff, great style throughout, excellently comfy bed and REAL PILLOWS (which are apparently hard to come by in Japan..) I stayed in a few of these smaller, boutique style mid-range hotels throughout my trip and this was my favourite accomodation by far. For me it was just the little details; the welcome box, the magnet housekeeping system, the additional blankets/heating for the colder week, bottled water in the fridge, the embossed notepad on the desk - everything was just exactly how it needed to be. If you have any love of design, interior decoration, brutalist architecture, or just want to be 30 seconds away from beating the crowds to get "that picture" on all the travel blogs - this is your place.

A great deal of attention placed on both design, and some vintage Japanese detail which I appreciated. An aesthetic that North Americans may consider hipster/artist chic. Concrete walls, exposed electrical pipes… Worked very well for me. Rooms are unusually spacious. Staff very helpful and English fluent. Just be aware there’s no TV - and it’s a bit of a challenge for taxis to get in there. Mine stopped me offf three blocks away. Wheeling two large suitcases uphill over very uneven stone streets was a challenge. The only negative.

The location is second to none and the design is really unique. Super comfortable accommodations, almost luxurious. You won't find anything like it in Kyoto. Exceedingly friendly staff too. Loved it.

Love the exceptional service. We arrived at 5pm on our check in date and was not able to rent a kimono in time. We were only there for a night and wanted to get photos on the hotel's rooftop. Upon check out, we had reserved to rent a kimono with a shop nearby, so we asked the receptionist if we can leave our luggage and come back to take a few photos on their rooftop. She was more than happy to assist us. This has been one of the best hotels we have stayed in Japan and will surely come back :)

6/10 Good

First of all, the location of this hotel is perfect. It’s right in the Gion district, walking distance from the cute shopping and restaurants. We could even see the pagoda from our room. The room was clean when we arrived and had plenty of room for two travelers and our belongings. We appreciated the amenities including the robes and slippers. The sink outside of the bathroom was nice for multiple travelers. The downside was that the room was never cleaned. They would empty the trash, and clean the floors but our beds went unmade, and the sinks and shower were never cleaned. We asked for a change of towels that took all day to receive. The WiFi was also very weak. Overall we were satisfied with our stay but expected more from the service.

Love this hotel!
This was a great hotel! Situated in the heart of the Gion district of Kyoto. It is up on a hill, so if you are taking the bus to the hotel, just be fair warned (and the street is cobblestoned). Service is amazing, the hotel is awesome, and only 8 rooms so it is fairly private. There is no tv in the room but that didn't bother me at all. And you have to take your shoes off in the room, which I love because it keeps the outside dirt by the door. Will stay here again the next time I go to Kyoto.

Excellent
Great reception who took our bags as we had arrived before check in, offered us cold water to rest before heading out. Very good English spoken by staff. Handy phone in room can make free international calls and ability to hire WiFi for travel. Free WiFi in room and the shower and amenities very nice. Fridge in room and bottles of water. Bed was the best so far in Japan. Eastern style pillows and choice of 2 each which is very appreciated and comfortable. Great views of kyoto from hotel roof. Lovely stay, highly recommend. Useful clothes hanging options in room so creases can drop out of your garments too. Would stay again.

Excellent - highly recommended!
Incredible value for money. The rooms are spacious and very well equipped. It's right in the middle of the historic part of Kyoto, and easy walking distances to public transport and lots of good restaurants. Only downside is there's no safe in the rooms and the rooms aren't that sound-proof.

8/10 Very good

It was our honeymoon and was greeted with an unexpected and pleasant surprise in our room. It was very thoughtful. The design of and mechanics of the room was modern and contemporary. Pull down transformation with hangers for clothings, retractable zip line to dry clothes, dials to dim lights and funky remix tracks to listen to. The place was clean, comfortable and has a great view of the Yasaka temple/tower. They also have a roof top which provided a great view and place to relax. Would love to back there!

An excellent hotel in a great location
This is a beautiful hotel with excellent staff. The hotel is in a really great location with good views of the pagoda. You can ask reception for a key to go up on the roof and it is a great place to go and watch the sunset. The room was very cool and had a CD player with the hotel's own curated compilation CD in it. This was a nice idea. The decor might not be to everyone's taste but i really liked it. Outside the hotel is a small van that serves really beautiful iced green teas with cream on top and little biscuits in the shape of pagodas. It's probably one of the most beautiful drinks i have ever had - very instagrammable.
