Not too bad
It was very basic. Nothing too fantastic about the location. There are other hostels around the area offering better options with respect to the comfort level. I bought a beer and took into the room. No air con. The main door was wide open for anyone to walk in. Not safe.

Very good price. I suppose you pay for what you get. Very basic accommodation but fairly clean and tidy. Staff were friendly and helpful. Property looks a bit run down that’s my only real issue. Would recommend

This Hostel was the most disgusting place I have ever stayed. There was people sitting around the middle of the hostel outside in absolute filth. I have stayed in a few hostels so I am aware of what to expect but this place was next level! It was so gross! I had actually stayed in this place 6 years ago and it was nothing like this. The rooms where so run down and everything was dirty. The bed was so uncomfortable and we later discovered once we lifted up the 8in thick mattress, that they had put boards between the mattress and bed frame. We woke up to vomit outside our door. I would never recommend this place to anyone. So disappointed!

Hopeless!
Booked online, turned up to check- in & the front gate was locked, the office unattended including the phone! I eventually go through to a person that didnt understand english after waiting 30 mins for the phone to be answered. Then to add insult to injury I was told the room was unavailable b/c they double booked. I never received a refund for the $60 I paid & had to sleep in my car over night!

Appalled
From patched hole in doors, missing microwave oven glass carousel, stained carpets,tv remote unusable, blanket instead of top sheet and no bedspread, dirty kitchen, untidy yard, plus other areas. All in all a disaster area. Won’t stay there again and no refunds if you decide not to stay when you see it.

Crackhead central.
I booked at St Kilda but was moved to Victoria street, and so while I it was very apparent that this was a fortunate booking, I won't go into what the St Kilda one appeared, but I'd say to keep looking. In regards to Victoria Street, it was crackhead central, you knew it by looking at it, and while my comfort zone wasn't breached, someone did leave after a single night. I'm not the easiest of people to spook, and for me the $30 a night to just sleep was good, and I wasn't concerned with the crowd 'down stairs'. The people I had a room with were decent, one guy was a little grouchy, but nothing bad. Some beds were enclosed on the top bunk, and were annoying to get in and especially out of. I had to jump down if there was no stool below me, not a high drop, just loud, occasionally. The beds themselves were...not exactly top notch, but this is $30 a night and crackhead central, so while they weren't the best and the one I ended up in 'after' the first couple of nights, was very squeaky to slight movements. I would however recommend you book Dr's appointment and /or an STD screening on your departure..Just in case. Overall, for me it wasn't bad, but I'm able to also handle myself. If you're after cheap, I'd say keep looking, there are other places for the same price, just don't expect to be right inside the city. Though, from what I discovered, the city wasn't where the fun was, anyway. P.S There aren't any lockers.

6/10 Good

Good for party-goers and adventurers
If you're after a quiet stay with secure rooms, cleanliness and booking guarantees, this is NOT the hostel for you. If you're after a kind of fly by the seat of your pants experience and looking to meet cool people, read on. The experience begins after having booked through Wotif with credit card billed, being told by one of the temp staff that the place was booked full and that they didn't have any 4-beds available, and that the rates advertised on the website weren't for me (despite the fact they actually were), and that I could get a 6-bunk for the price they ask online for a 4-bunk room. I learned subsequently that this is not an uncommon scenario (firsthand experience and see other reviews). They then booked me into a room which was already full, to the consternation of other bunk-mates, before getting it right. Several days later, I was forced to move to another room because they had over-booked again. A room-mate jovially announce that this was the drunk room, hoisting his six pack. Had the front desk not moved me to a more suitable room, this review would have been 1 out of 5. During the day its a very chill atmosphere with relaxed rules and good people. During the night, prepare for drunk fights as backpackers with too much testosterone fight over women, petty squabbles or differences of opinion. In between this there is actual deep connections where you want them and a hell of a lot of partying and good music.

Upon arrival we very very abruptly and quite rudely informed that the rates of the room displayed on hotels.com were wrong, having already paid for our stay, we were told numerous times by the man on the desk he'd prefer it if we chose to get a refund and not stay. We had no where else to go, it was late evening and not enough money to pay extra somewhere else. He did not have any level of good customer service and was very blunt with us. We were given a private room as payed for, which was ok. It had good facilities and was nice enough. However we woke the next morning covered in bites of some sort. I would not return unfortunately. Hotels.com also stated there was free parking, however there were only 5/6 spaces for the hole hostel so we had to pay street parking.

Good hostel
We booked the hostel manly because it had a car park . But we have been surprised for how spacious the room was and in the heart of st kilda. We stayed in the hostel for 3 nights in a doublebed room with own bathroom. Every day a chambermaid came vor cleaning and brought new towels. To be honest we haven't used the kitchen and tv/chill area ... For the money it was a great stay and we would come back !

Good location, 5 mins to the beach
Helpful staff, heater broken, toilet seat broken, tap broken, sink tap sprays water, very comfortable bed. The quietest backpackers I have ever stayed. Very safe as the security gate is shut at night. Minimal parking. Windows in bathroom stuck open and very cold! Cleaner very good and clean towels every day. Clean sheets every three days. Beautiful linen. Comfy pillows, I'm impressed! No chairs in room and carpet is yuck. I stayed for two weeks and minimal cleaning done. Everyone banged on the door as numbers are hard to read. Will stay agin. Good price, great location. No hairdryer.

looked 'dogdy' upon arrival
I booked a twin share room, bunk beds with private bathroom. The room looked nothing like the internet picture online, when I booked. Upon arrival was told our room was actually a 6 berth bunk share, and TV didn't work. Carpet was vacuumed, but stained. We had to put on our own linen that they supplied - my pillow case had a disgusting stain on it. Pillows and dooners that we had to cover ourselves were stained and looked dirty - very gross! Some weren't even folded - I actually wondered if the room had been cleaned at all. The bathroom was clean enough, but had a floor mat that looked like it had been used for several weeks, certainly not a new fresh one - I refused to use the shower.

very disappointed with the broken tap and sink.
We chose the hostel main because of the location St Kilda (my frineds' area) , but it's actually not location we needed: too far from my friend's place. First of all, the room has some smoke smell from previous customer. Although I liked the big washroom, but the water tap and sink were both broken: the sink was blocked. Most importantly, someone unlocked the door without knocking early in the morning, which cannot be tolerated. That's why I had to change to another more expensive hotel.

I was staying in a dorm with the housekeepers and I believe my room is probably one of the cleanest. The common area esp the kitchen is not clean. I won't even cook there. Don't expect anything for breakfast. I chose this place only for the price.

Only thing going for this place was the location
Seven car parks for the entire complex meant out car was was parked out in main street wherever we could get a park. On opening the door of the room the smell was foul. The bed linen was dirty/stained, the pillows (if you could call them that!) absolutely stunk and it was obvious that the bedding hadn't been changed or the room cleaned from the previous occupant as there was still rubbish in the bin. Only one light in the bathroom/toilet area working. Bathroom door had 2 fist holes through it! Had to wake management after opening to get security deposit returned.
