Promise high deliver not so
Arrived after a wonderful week in nz where hospitality seemed to be compulsory. During check in i asked where i could park my car. The guy told me i would need to park around the corner which would cost me $25. Drove there to find car park under renovation with pay facilties not able to accept card and cost of $30 even if a spot was avail. Drove around to find another area with next area cost approx $60. End result was an hour spent trying to find parking that was going to add $60 to my accom cost. Relayed this to reception on return and got lip service ( they blamed 3rd party web sites like lastminute.com for false information) so returned to our room using the lift which just happenned to stop at the unmentioned car park which presumably was full. The room whilst well appointed did not boast the view of the harbour as depicted in the photo but more the billboard across the road - often the case but didnt help. Breakfast was chaotic. The buffet was crowded with no clear path to anything. Food was ok but lacked variety outside of the hot food. Coffee was a chore - fight through the people waiting for hot food to the machine. End of the day wont be going back any time soon

FANTASTIC PLACE TO STAY 10/10
Absolutely fabulous. 10/10. My husband and I stayed two nights and had a fabulous stay. Staff extremely friendly couldn't have been more helpful. Room perfect. Bed so soft and comfortable. The facilities were perfect had everything there. Great location a minute walk from he train station, shopping right at you're door and beautiful walks around the water front. We ordered room service the first night for dining and food for the price was great and delivered in a short space of time. We included buffet breakfast both days with our stay would definitely recommend this. The service was 10/10 open till 11am we went down just after 10am on the first morning and it was reasonably quiet great selection to choose from couldn't have asked for any thing else it was all there. Second day we went down a bit earlier about 9am it was quite a bit busier so we had a wee wait but nothing to worry about the gentleman checking guest in was extremely helpful and friendly offered me a coffee while we waited and was always letting us know how much longer and when we were seated he would come and ask if everything was ok could he get us anything fantastic customer service. Our vehicle was parked in the underground car parking at $30 a night and it was so easy. Definitely coming to stay again.

Lovely hotel, shame about the restaurant next door
I've stayed here several times now, and each time have loved the comfort and cleanliness of the hotel. What has let me down both times, is the free breakfast from Portlander Restaurant. The irony that the restaurant is a steakhouse is not lost on me, however I was assured that they would be able to cater for my dietary requirements. Both times I mentioned these requirements on the booking form, I called the restaurant in advance, I reminded the restaurant upon checking in, and again before breakfast. Both times I ended up with the worst breakfast I have ever been presented with at a restaurant. It was cold, flavourless, and both times I've suffered with stomach issues afterwards, as I don't believe they took my requests seriously. The staff and chefs there really need to understand how to cater for all diets, and that there are times where people do suffer from allergies and intolerances. I also was given the wrong milk in my coffee, which left me feeling extremely unwell. I do love the hotel, but am hesitant to ever utilise the restaurant again. I do have to say that the hotel staff handled the issues exceptionally well, as I was quite unwell after these incidences. I do commend them for doing so.

Lovely hotel but not exactly baby friendly
Hotel room was lovely however, the room was completely lit up the entire night and we could not get the windows covered properly because the drapes just were not big enough for the windows. The room that was assigned to us did not give us a lot of room to have our luggage on the floor, the crib, the arm chair they had and have space for us to move freely around. Upon arrival, the staff members who served us was very monotoned and it was like he did not want to be there. I figured being 8pm perhaps it was coming to the end of his shift but to my surprise he was there the next morning at checkout, with the same monotone voice. The bathroom also had a feature of a sensor light so you don’t need to turn the actual night on at night, but when you have a baby, who you’re trying to get to sleep through the night, this is just silly and there was no way to turn it off. We stayed elsewhere during our visit and had absolutely none of these issues; and I had expected that with this being a reasonably better hotel in comparison we would be fine, however I was disappointed

The Place to be in Wellington...
Fantastic ! This hotel provides high level of hospitality... Check in and check out based on confidence are smooth and efficient. Due to personal reason, I don't want to provide my credit card at check in, they ask me for NZD50 cash only when other places ask for NZD800 for the same time period... At check out, they ask me about mini bar's consumption and noticed what I said without any verification trusting you when others send someone in your room to check if you're lying or not... At check in, I received a complimentary upgrade for a room with balcony and a complimentary drink for 2 that can be used separately during my stay at my best convenient time. The bed is amazing comfortable with different choice of pillows... The mini bar provide big choices of local products... The buffet breakfast is generous and tasty when others provide the minimum, adding extras for eggs and even for bread and butter !!! The staff was attentive and very professional to offer you the best assistance during your stay... And maybe the most important, the Rydges Wellington provides good vibes and casual atmosphere that make you feel comfortable, same at home... Near train station and center, I definitively will recommend the Rydges Wellington to my friends and for all travelers visiting Wellington... You will love it...
