Beautiful but not welcoming
Pros: - Bed clean and tidy when you check in, bathrooms are clean as well and seemed to be cleaned every day. They have free soap in the shower - The beds have shelves, individual lights and power outlets (with USB port as well) - The lockers in the room are big (You can fit a carry on luggage with a medium backpack inside) - The locker room is safe and useful - Breakfast is good and I think it's an ok price for Paris - The staff is polite but not friendly Cons: - you have to pay for everything extra: towels (6 euro the rent for your entire stay, and they won't exchange it for a new one if it gets dirty, you have to pay another rent) - the laundry is a little bit difficult to use. You have to buy soap in the vending machine at the reception, and then pay for each machine you use - The restaurant has an ok price (some meals are overpriced), but what really bothered me is that the kitchen closes at 10p.m., to me that's really early - They don't allow you to bring food from outside. People sleep in hostels while traveling to SAVE MONEY and another way to save money is buying food at the market. They don't have a kitchen for guests nor a fridge. There won't be anyone checking your bags when you come in, so... I've seen girls eating outside food in my room - The rooftop bar... It seems amazing in the photos, but once you get there you realize it's not an hostel thing. In the weekends it's full of outside people, not a welcoming place for travelers.

First time staying at a Generator propertym. Booked with the Paris location. Pros: Did not have to pay upfront at time of booking. Fyi, you can also pay in euro(cash) at the front desk, you just have to make a reservation with a credit/debit card. Staff was able to answer all my questions. Security was on the premises 24/7. There is a charging station located on each bunk bed. Private ensuite bathrooms/showers as well. Rooftop bar with a great bartender(tall, lanou guy, curly hair) with a great view of the city. I also liked that the hallways we're a bit dimmer and not that garish, bright hotel light. Hangers provided and a locker as well. Locks/towels are €6. So bring your own! Free walking tours leave the hostel at 10am every morning. There's also a cafe and club on sight but I did not use those facilities. Cons: Pay for towels. No handsoap provided. Hygenically, I do think these need to be added to the rooms. At least hand sanitizer. You get private sink but not hand soap?! Certain room decor(Mason jars) were filled with dust and debris They serve no purpose but to collect dust/dirt. Water temp is very tepid.Luke warm at best. Again, hygenically-speaking, hot water is best. Also, the shower room had a funky smell coming from it. Tile needed to cleaned/wiped. I think cleanliness needs to be stressed to guests upon check-in. I found dirty silverware/cup. Dirty tissue balled up on surfaces. Old yogurt. Clogged sink/shower. Room could have been warmer. Maybe add floor lamps.

Easy to access hostel
I shared a room with 7 other girls. Some were very rude, others respectful. The beds weren't very comfortable, but that's what to expect from a hostel. The showers all have black mold in them, in the corners. Three different women at the front desk tried to sneakily steal money from me. The first gave me my change and told me, "I gave you a little extra, because we don't have the exact amount." Not true, she shorted me, I corrected her. The second day, I paid for a rental towel. They charge 10 euro, but give 5 back if returned. I paid with a 20 and patiently waited for my 10. She insisted I only gave her 10, eventually giving me my change. The third shorted me only 1 euro on a buffer charge. I don't think that all three were just human error. I do believe they are trying to steal and hope you don't notice or speak up. The location was very easy to access by metro and only about 10-20 minutes from everything you want to see. All staff speak English, which is nice too. My last night, my room key stopped working. I literally went up and down the 5th floor five times working with the same individual, until finally another escorted me and got me in.

Fair 4.0
I used to stay in concept hostels and boutique hotels, but my stay here is disappointing. Staff was okay but cannot be regarded as friendly. No free luggage storage, you need to rent a locker (2 Euro per hour) to store your luggage. After adding the locker rental fee I can book a better hotel... I rent for a private room and I didn't ask for housekeeping service until the fourth day of my stay but noticed that housekeeping only clean-up the trash bin and make-up our bed. It's obvious that they did not wipe the floor. It's okay for not changing the bed sheet but we wanted to change the towel, when we ask housekeep for new set of towel they said that costs 5 Euro to rent new set of towels... This property and facilities are poorly managed as there are parts that are falling off. Windows are not sound proof and you can hear the noisy street very easily.

The hostel was pretty much what I expected from a hostel. Beds were decent, not what I have at home but not the worst I've slept on. Facilities could use attention - only one men's toilet working on my floor, and laundry out of order (4 laundromats within 5 min walk, so that wasn't as bad). Hostel seems to attract international travelers as well as large groups. Got very nervous when I saw a busload of teenage boys in the lobby (on a school trip?), but I never heard a peep from them or saw them again, so maybe they try to keep them all on another floor or something. Common areas (at least the cafe and roof) are nice. Be aware that everyone in Paris smokes, so couldn't stay long on the roof deck, which was a shame because the view was really nice. Can't say about the bar/club, since I don't drink. Wasn't crazy that you weren't allowed outside food, since I have food allergies and couldn't eat anything that was available in the hostel's cafe. Mea culpa - should have checked on that before booking. Fortunately, lots of restaurants/shops within 20 min walk w/ good gluten-free options. The neighborhood is fine, just not as fancy and sanitized as tourist areas. It's on the border of the 10th and 19th, so caters more to locals. Ignore reviews that say the neighborhood is dangerous. Those reviewers have just never seen a homeless person before. There's graffiti and poverty. There are also families and trendy restaurants and organic markets. You'll be fine.
