Clean hotel in handy location
My husband and I and our adult son stayed a total of 3 nights . We had expected the room to be small but it was clean . I had brought my hair dryer just in case. They were happy to provide hot water if required (I had brought along a couple of insulated mugs on out trip). There was a small lift which stopped between floors on the curved staircase and we were informed of this. I had read on this from previous reviews so I had expected it.The hotel is very close to the Gare de Lyon station and if you see Novotel you will find it near it. We had taken the RER Line D at Gare Du Nord to Gare de Lyon however I think it worthwhile to use a taxi considering how packed it was at 2 pm ( and maybe even at other times as well ). Having our suitcases didn't help but people in the train didn't seem to want to move their positions to make space for others. The location was great as it was only minutes to catch the early train to Milan our next stop. Jurgen at reception recommended a meal at L' Arrosoir and it was good. Our dinner of sea bream, lamb shanks and steak (300g) came to 56 euros. There was no charge for water or bread . The bakery on the right after the exit is fantastic and we had our breakfast sitting at the bench there. Pity it was not opened on the Sunday and we left so early for Milan.

Late arrivals/departing early Gare de Lyon
Hotel is perfectly located for late arrivals/early departures from Gare de Lyon. It's only a 3 minute walk from Hall 2 (entrance beside the Novotel) Hotel Helvitia staff were polite and courteous, my late arrival had them greet me by name. The room was clean and comfortable, and by Parisian standards one of the more spacious ones I have stayed in. The bathroom is a wit tight, but clean and modern. The decor is a bit dated in the hotel overall, but it was spotlessly clean and looked to be well looked after. The lift stops between floors (an old building so it was put in after the original construction). The staircase is a spiral one, so for travelling with a suitcase I'd suggest stopping at the higher floor level. Will definately use this hotel again, it was ideal for my stay in Paris.

Practical
The hotel is located directly in front of a Gare de Lyon metro entrance, a post office, small mini mart, casual and fine dining, and ATMs. Just a block away is the main Gare de Lyon station with a huge taxi queue where you could grab a cab in minutes if need be. The location is just incredibly practical. The accommodations are basic and perfectly functional. Small rooms, but that is very much to be expected. They were cozy and comfortable. We had windows looking out into the very loud street and were delighted by how sound proof the room was at night. I will say the check in process was a bit bizarre. It wouldn't be fair to fault the entire experience for the behavior of one person, but the concierge was a real pill. The anti-American sentiment was crystal clear, or the guy just hated his job. Either way, it seemed that hospitality was certainly not his strong suit.

Think twice if you are coming to Paris in Summer
The only good thing about this hotel is it's very close to Gare de Lyon. The room is small but it's Paris, so it's okay. The room doesn not come with air-con and the window is small. Even though you have opened it, no wind is coming in. And it's a few degrees hotter than outdoor. I end up sweating the whole night can couldn't sleep. The bed is not very clean, I feel itchy after staying there for just ONE NIGHT. The lift is stopping in the middle of two floors, that mean you have to carry your luggage to walk at least half a floor, which is really doesn't make sense to me. If your budget can afford, stay in other hotels with air-con and cleaner. Ibis and Novotel is just steps away and it's also very close to Gare de Lyon.

Yet another stay here.
Hotel is okay for Paris. Beware that the one person lift stops between floors. If you are on floor one, you have to walk down some stairs after the lift. If on floor two, you walk up some stairs! Have been here before. We always ask for a first floor but get offered a higher floor so we have to ask for a lower one. This time they tried to request payment for an earlier booking we had cancelled. Eventually they found the newer cheaper booking of ours. I had to insist on a receipt when we paid the city tax, in case they asked again on checkout.
