Simple hotel, good location, infested with bedbugs
I woke in the middle of the night on my last of 4 nights at Hotel Richmond to everyone's least welcome visitor: bedbugs. I stripped my bed, and found and killed as many as I could, but the bed bases that the hotel uses have deep seams that are perfect bedbug hiding locations. Some of the bedbugs were nymphs, which points to eggs being laid in the hotel. I didn't go back to sleep that night, but instead spent the time going over every tiny seam of my luggage, doing my best to make sure that I wasn't going to bring the infestation home with me. I reported it to the hotel in the morning, even going as far as bringing some of the killed bugs down to the front desk as proof. I was told that, because we had pre-paid with, the hotel couldn't help us. Instead, the best they could do was to comp the €10 city tax. They told me that my only recourse was to send an email. And, of course, the response to that email was "We are sorry of this incident but unfortunatly (sic) we cannot do anything for you now." I understand that even the poshest hotels can get bedbugs, but the absolute lack of interest in trying to take any steps to remedy the situation is appalling. Hotel Richmond is a good deal, until you consider the real cost of pesticides and powders, lost sleep, detouring during a holiday to find a laundromat in order to high-heat dry all your belongings at 50°C and shrinking/ruining some of them in the process, making your luggage unusable, etc. etc. etc.

It is indeed so sad that there is a need for me to write this email in relation to my experience whilst my children and  i were I have travelled around the world so many times and I stayed numerous hotels in different parts of the world and I can honestly say that your hotel was the worse hotel that I have ever stayed. I booked my reservation via online and i was made to believed that your hotel was 2 star hotel. For instance, the hotel was dirty, it had rats and there was no Wi-Fi despite being promised otherwise. Almost all the electric sockets in our room were not working, the shower door was broke, hence, we couldn't get in and out of the shower. Also, our room never got cleaning regularly for the period we stayed. I have raised the issues above to the receptionist but nothing have been  resolved. To make the matter worse, we met someone by the name of Patrick (white male with bold head) who was at the reception of the hotel. He was and will be the most rudest person I have come across. For example, our first day I have approached him and I asked him where  is the hotel breakfast. Initially, he was reluctant to respond to me as if he was saying why i asked him for a direction. He then said next door to the hotel. My children and I went out at door next to the hotel but we were told it was not the

You get what you pay for in Paris. Just ok.
This room is great for the location, price and the fact we had beds in a room to sleep 5 people. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was not so great for space in general with beds for 5 people, but that is ok so long you book this room for sleeping vs hanging out in your room, which is what we did. With being right outside Gard de Nord, it is loud outside most of the day and night. There is a nice window, but people smoke a lot around here, so you cannot really open the window for fresh air, unless you do not mind cigarette smoke. The bathroom is small, which is ok, but the ceiling was covered in mildew or mold and it smelled like it too, Luckily after a bit you get nose blind to the smell and it's fine. Overall, it was an ok place to stay. Close to the train and walking distance to a few things, 30-45 minutes. The price for the beds was good enough for us on this trip, so if you are looking to be frugal on your stay, sleep , shower and leave your hotel, this is a good place to go.

2 Star hotel and they tell you up front!!
When we arrived we asked if room was ready, unfortunately not but they stored our luggage until they could get a room ready. We asked if the hotel was booked up and he said no, he said and I quote "there is a reason this is only a 2 star hotel". We were surprised but left it at that. Beds were mediocre and when opening a window, a strong smell of urine would blow into the room. We realized the next day that there was an open air public urinal across the street. I guess that is Paris. Room was very small. Each time we left the hotel we were required to hand back our room key, we were told it was for security reasons, never had that request before and they were fairly adament about that. The only thing it really shines for is being across from the train station Gare du Nord, otherwise, I guess the guy at the front desk wasn't far wrong about the 2 star rating. Would look for a different place next time.

The hotel room was nice albeit smaller than expected considering I opted for the superior room thinking it would match the pictures on this site. Very bare amenities offered. The location was convenient to get to. I didn’t really appreciate when I tried speaking in French initially, the check in guy switching to English and then translating what he had said even though I started the conversation in French. I knew what he was saying. I’ve studied French for 5+ years and so did my friend that visited me who was told to just speak English. But that just might be some unwillingness I found with some of the French to communicate with any difference in accent or pronunciation. It was off-putting and made each time coming back into the hotel all the more awkward with me no longer have the confidence to say my room number in French and just opting to speak to the guy in English. It just wasn’t the best for my first knack of communication for my first arrival in France and lowered my confidence in speaking French further. Luckily I had opportunities elsewhere.
