Sanur
Sanur offers a perfect beachy escape without the chaos of Bali's tourist hotspots. The 5km paved beachfront path invites morning strolls past colourful fishing boats and gentle waves. Museum Le Mayeur showcases beautiful Balinese-inspired art in a former beachfront home, while the ancient Blanjong Pillar stands as a quiet reminder of the island's rich history. Beachfront warungs serve fresh grilled fish as the sun rises, while boutique resorts offer tropical garden settings. Getting around is easiest by bicycle or ride-sharing apps, with the whole beachfront wonderfully walkable. The mellow evening scene focuses on sunset cocktails and acoustic music, perfectly matching Sanur's laid-back village vibe.

Renon
Renon district in Denpasar offers a refreshing break from Bali's touristy hustle with its sprawling green spaces and civic significance. The majestic Bajra Sandhi Monument tells Bali's history through intricate stone carvings, while locals gather at Lapangan Puputan Renon for morning jogs and evening hangouts. You'll get an authentic peek into everyday Balinese urban life while still enjoying modern amenities. Local warungs serve mouthwatering bebek betutu and nasi campur at wallet-friendly prices. Accommodation range from budget to mid-range guesthouses catering mostly to business travellers. Getting around is a breeze with abundant bemos, ojeks, and ride-sharing options connecting you to central Denpasar and beyond.
Teuku Umar
Teuku Umar buzzes with the energy of Denpasar's commercial heartbeat, where banks and office towers line the wide thoroughfare. You'll find everything from gleaming shopping centers to traditional warungs tucked between modern shopfronts. Level 21 Mall and Diponegoro offer retail therapy while local markets serve up authentic Balinese goods alongside everyday necessities. Dining options range from quick business lunches to flavourful local cuisine at budget-friendly prices. Taxis and local minibuses make getting around a breeze, connecting you to beaches and tourist spots just 30-45 minutes away. Business hotels and budget guesthouses provide comfortable bases for exploring this practical, less touristy side of Bali.

Imam Bonjol
Imam Bonjol blends Bali's cultural heritage with everyday island life. The neighborhood's crown jewel is the Bali Museum, where traditional pavilions house ancient artefacts and royal treasures. Nearby, Puputan Square honours Balinese resistance while Kumbasari Market buzzes with vendors selling handwoven textiles and wood carvings under colourful umbrellas. Local warungs serve authentic nasi campur at wallet-friendly prices, with excellent street food options throughout the area. Getting around is easy with abundant bemo minibuses and ojek motorcycle taxis connecting you to central Denpasar attractions. The area quiets down after sunset, making it perfect for travellers seeking cultural immersion over nightlife.

Mahendradatta
Mahendradatta delivers a slice of authentic Balinese life away from the tourist crowds. This busy corridor in northern Denpasar hums with local energy—motorbikes weave between colourful shops selling everything from fresh produce to handwoven textiles. You'll find traditional warungs sending out mouth-watering aromas, small Hindu shrines, and glimpses of daily ceremonies that most beach-goers miss completely. Budget travellers will love the wallet-friendly guesthouses and homestays that cost a fraction of beachfront prices. Frequent local buses and bemos connect you to Ubud, Sanur, and Kuta when beach time calls. The area quiets down after dark, so plan your adventures accordingly and embrace the genuine urban rhythms of everyday Bali.

Hyatt Regency Bali
"Staff and facilities fantastic. Made a special effort for my fiancée’s birthday"
ANDAZ BALI, BY HYATT
"I'll admit I wasn't thrilled the first hour after arriving, coming off a smaller, quieter private villa in Ubud and tired from an hour-long drive. That feeling didn't last. The Andaz turned out to be a genuinely excellent, quiet, high-quality stay. We booked two rooms for our family of four, which made things feel spacious (recommend this if your budget allows). Rooms had a spa-like decor, plenty of counter space, and a lovely balcony overlooking the quiet pool. The property doesn't have many pools, so if you want a big pool scene, the livelier Hyatt Regency next door (shared facilities) may suit better. Poolside service was attentive, if a bit slow. Food was a highlight: breakfast is à la carte, not buffet, and beautifully made (the mushroom pâté and soufflé pancake stood out). In-room dining was surprisingly good and reasonably priced. The shared spa and gym were serene and high-quality. Our kids loved the chef's cooking class, essentially private since they were the only two enrolled, making pandan crepes and mie goreng. WhatsApp made communicating with the hotel easy for bookings and requests. Recommend it, just give yourself a day to adjust if coming from a smaller property."
Prama Sanur Beach Bali
"Just love Prama. Huge pool. On the Beach and walking distance to my favourite restaurants.. Just wish they had coffee machines like most other hotels in this price range."
Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur - Bali
"Hospitality was exceptional, the facilities are starting to show their age, however it’s still exceptionally maintained and has a Balinese feel and not western vibe. Food was excellent, pool was relaxing and the pillows were lovely and soft, will stay again. Oh yes, there are shuttles as well to the south of Sanur to explore outside if you’re inclined. Loved the dining area and the lobby bar."
Grand Palace Hotel Sanur - Bali
"Great staff and location. Nice clean rooms. Great pool for lane swimming"
Bali Beach Hotel
"Close to the Beach and helpful staff"
The Meru Sanur
"We had a wonderful stay at Miru Sanur. Everything was perfect — the room was clean and comfortable, the location was great, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The service was excellent throughout our stay, and we really enjoyed our time here. Highly recommended!"
Maison Aurelia Sanur, Bali - by Préférence
"Lovely hotel, great base for Sanur. Very modern and smart, beautifully clean. Nice pool but no sun from mid afternoon which is when we would have liked to spend time there. 5 mins walk to the beach. Easy to get a grab taxi from the door. enjoyed our two nights there very much and could have stayed longer. We used this as a base to visit Nusa Lembongan which we highly recommend for a day! Walking distance to the Icon shopping mall, which we didn't shop in but definitely worth a visit for aesthetics! Some lovely beach bars within walking distance. If you turn right once at the beach you pass a small turtle sanctuary which was worth a visit!"
Sumitra Luxury Villas & Resort by Pramana
"Wow! This resort was so beautiful, and the location was so peaceful. The villa was roomy and luxurious feeling. It had a king-sized bed with mosquito netting, an indoor bathroom and an outdoor shower and a private pool. The pool at the restaurant was so beautiful that we used it instead. We scheduled a message at the spa, which was affordable and incredible. Try the French toast at breakfast. It was an easy Grab car ride into Abud and a nice break from the hustle of the city."

4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Denpasar
- Book for the cheapest times: The most affordable time to visit Denpasar is during February, March, and November, when hotel prices are generally lower. For those looking to immerse themselves in the city’s rich history and vibrant culture, a stay of at least 4 to 5 days is recommended. This duration allows visitors to explore key landmarks, such as stunning temples, cultural monuments, and engaging art scenes, while also enjoying budget-friendly dining and shopping options. With various festivals adding to the cultural experience, Denpasar offers great value for money for travellers on a budget.
- Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: To discover last-minute deals to Denpasar, visit the Deals or Last-Minute Deals section on Hotels.com, where you're more likely to see discounted rates on nearby hotels as your travel date approaches. By enabling email alerts or push notifications, you may stay informed about flash sales and special promotions, helping you secure the best hotel deals. Additionally, the Smart Shopping tool available via the app allows travellers to compare hotel prices and amenities, ensuring you know when luxury options or better deals become available, maximising your chances of a great last-minute getaway.
- Be flexible with dates: Prices can fluctuate based on factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year, so being flexible with your travel dates could help you save on your stay in a Denpasar hotel. For those in search of distinctive accommodations, boutique hotels may provide a more personalised experience and potentially better value. When you book through Hotels.com, we will inform you whether the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. If the price is on the higher side, we may suggest more affordable dates to enhance your chances of securing a better deal.
- Consider your location: Hotels situated near the city centre usually tend to be more expensive, but with Denpasar's outstanding public transport connections, you may discover a more affordable independent hotel located a bit further out that remains well linked. For those wishing to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there is often excellent value to be found. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
