Room's were beautiful, staff amazing BUT.........
We got checked in, by a very pleasant and helpful lady. In fact, all your staff were very pleasant and very helpful. She did explain that you no longer had a chef there to do evening meals!! We were staying in a stunning room called “Robin” The room was very warm and we tried to turn the radiators down but they wouldn't, we opened all the windows. When we came back in the evening, there was also an awful stagnant smell coming from the bathroom, we ran the shower to see if that would help, but it didn’t, the smell permeated the room through to the bedroom as well. I mentioned it to the Lady who served us at breakfast, she arranged for us to have a different room. She said we could look at the room first, another beautiful room called “Bunting” We packed all our belongings and took them to our new room that didn’t smell of stagnant water. She said that she would arrange for the radiators to be turned on as it was very cold in there. There are two very large radiators as it was such big room. We went out for the whole day, and was looking forward to coming back and having a bath, as there was no shower. The room was freezing. The radiators obviously didn’t work and in its place was a small oil filled radiator, that was far too small for such a big room. The bathroom was also even colder, there was no way, you wanted to get undressed and get into a bath in a very cold room, when your already cold. We were totally fed up, and sleept in our hoodies over PJ's..No reply to my emails

Definitely a place to experience what it’s like to stay in the Cotswolds. Very quaint inn with its rustic look and feel. Staff was very nice and the ability to dine at their sister property across the street (the Mermaid) was a plus.

A bit disappointed
The room was clean and bed was comfortable but when we arrived the pub was closed and we had to visit a pub across the road to check in. I tried to contact the golden pheasant before arrival as per the email from hotels.com but received no reply to my email or message via the website and no answer to my many telephone call attempts. When checking in, we were told the pub wasn’t serving food anymore so we had to go elsewhere for dinner and the bar opened after 4pm. We’d probably stay somewhere else that was fully open and operational next time.

Disappointing stay
We stayed at the Golden Pheasant a few years ago and it was fantastic but this time we were disappointed. Our room didn't have a shower, only a bath in the actual bedroom - I knew I had chosen a room with the bath, but it wasn't clear there wouldn't also be a shower. I thought I was booking the same room as last time. There was a strange substance on the wall and ceiling that hadn't been cleaned, although the rest of the room was clean. On one of the nights, there was a burst water main and although we got a note through the door apologising, there was no guidance on whether the water was safe to use/drink until the water company had sorted the issue. Finally, on our last day, we waited an hour for breakfast to be served which wasn't ideal.

We thought we booked a standard room above a pub, but we were very pleasantly surprised at the luxury and roominess, comfortableness, the modern but in keeping with the style bathrooms and the quiet.

Would not recommend - unclean and bad service
We had a very disappointing stay at the Golden Pheasant Inn - the place was shabby, didn’t feel very clean (bathroom floor felt slimy), missing lightbulbs in the bedroom, light in bathroom not working, uncomfortable beds, windows wouldn’t open so room as stifling hot. Service was terrible. Breakfast took an hour to arrive and was very disappointing (inedible). Would not recommend.

Do not trust the photos. The rooms are small. The door has to be forced open and no windows. Switches all over the place some of which don’t operate anything. Handles missing from draws. Towel rail rusty. No glasses in toilet for tooth brushes and no spare toilet rolls. No sugar for drinks. Everything started badly when the only pen they had to sign in was a biro refill? No TV in the bar which closes at 10.30 due to lack of customers. No food in the evenings which I’m not surprised at if it would be anything like breakfast. Served by a person who didn’t want to be there. Everything was too much trouble. The plate was covered in fat from the bacon, which was dried out, the sausage that was under cooked, and poached egg that were hard. The only item that was truly edible were the hash browns. Two night I can honestly say I’d rather not have experienced.

The room was not cleaned properly. No food available in the evening. Breakfast waitress looked and sounded like everything was too much trouble. Noisy room which kept us awake most of the night. We booked a room with a shower but we're given one with a bath which was totally unsuitable for 2 people in their 70s. When we queried this we were told the hotel was full.

Disappointing
We were extremely disappointed with the Accommodation as it is advertised as 4 star & it isn`t. The hallway to the room was dirty and the doors were dirty and handles were sticky. The room was also dirty and the furniture was old & worn. It was so bad that we decided to leave and did not stay the night.

If I could give this property less than 1 star - I would. Honestly and accurately. The pub itself seems charming, but the rooms are shocking. Views of trash dumpsters and empty beer kegs, a carpet of cigarette butts outside the door, stained carpet and walls - including what looks like mold on the walls above the bathtub - the inn part of this place is a DIVE. Moldy, musty disgusting. "The best room they offer" according to the front desk person. I immediately turned down the room and asked for a refund - long story short, even with Expedia intervention, Golden Pheasant refused to refund, citing their "strict no-refund policy." It's strict alright.. one wonders how much of the income comes from duped travelers who have booked remotely and are now stuck after realizing the place is atrocious. Avoid at all costs.

Staff were pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was good. The hotel is shabby and in dire need of serious cleaning and refurbishment. Dirty and worn carpets and paintwork. Curtains torn and dirty. Our bathroom was baking hot.

When we checked in the staff was friendly and courteous. They informed us that our breakfast included in the price of the room was only available from 9am to 10am and that the room we would be booked in had a bathroom that was separate from the bedroom. That seemed slightly odd since the website never stated anything about that. When we got to the room the lower third portion of the window had cardboard and fragile tape all over it covering broken pieces of glass. Upon further inspection the binder of guest information stated that breakfast was served from 8:00am to 10:30am. When we went dow stairs the following morning to check out at 8:00am there was a full breakfast being served but when we attempted to enter the eating area the staff prohibited us from entering. When we inquired as to why we were not allowed to eat at that time the staff said there was a group of 40 that was the only ones allowed to eat until 9:00am. I asked why the staff wasn’t more transparent the evening before when we checked in that the reason we were told breakfast was only from 9am to 10am was due to this large group. The staff became combative and stated that “we told you the night before that you could not have breakfast until 9am.” I replied that the website and guest information binder should include a note that terms and times may vary due to other guests receiving preferential treatment because they were a larger group. I stated I would leave a review for future guests to be aware
