Really enjoyed our visit to Volcano National Park. So convenient to stay at the Volcano House!

Perfect Stay!
We had a magical stay! The volcano erupted halfway through and we had a crater view!! The front desk staff is superb, and the restaurant food and service excellent! We will be back.

Great to be there close to the volcano. What a beautiful view from the lodge. What really nice service from the entire staff. The food in the restaurants was quite versatile and tasty.

Great view of the eruption!
The hotel was great, but super busy with the eruption going on. Parking was difficult. The room was exactly what we needed and we had an incredible view. We enjoyed sitting by the fire and exploring all the trails around the hotel.

We were not sure what to expect, but it was great. The view from the room of the volcano was amazing and with no TVs as a distraction you could really focus on the beauty of Hawaii. The restaurant there was excellent for dinner and my family enjoyed the breakfast buffet as well. you could walk out the back of the hotel directly onto a trail that would allow you to hike most of Volcano National Park. If we make it back to the Big Island again we will be sure to stay here again.

For a national park lodge this property is outstanding. Keep in mind, there aren't a lot of frills here and might not be for everyone but the view and peace and quiet make it worthwhile. Staff is very pleasant and helpful and food on sight is great. Glad we chose to stay here.

Since we spent two days at the national volcano park, it was perfect to spend the night right there at the Volcano House. We also liked that it is a historic property sitting at the edge of the crater rim.

One doesn't really go to the lodge for its fabulous amenities. It is a piece of history and as such - sure, it's dated, no TV most rooms are a bit small and the washrooms are tiny - But clean. You go there for the volcano! This time around (our 5th time staying here) the volcano was right out front. Nice dinner in the pub with a non stop view. Plus we splurged on the large park side room and watched the action all night. The staff are truly wonderful and live the Aloha spirit. Highly recommend

The location was great and we would book again. Old property, no elevator or tvs. Restaurants suffered from lack of staff (like everyone these days) and had mediocre food. BUT, it was wonderful for viewing the volcano. Comfortable enough.

All was excellent except for a 3:00 am fire alarm.

6/10 Good

Great location inside the park overlooking the rim of volcano crater. Friendly helpful staff. Good breakfast buffet. Room needs updating...single pane old wooden windows from the 1950s, no TV, no mini-fridge. Dining room menu very limited for dinner (only 5 entrees).

It's the only accommodation with a view of the Kilauea caldera! Wow.
Denise, 1-night trip

Super convenient for hiking VNP and the rooms are a good size although very basic. The Rim Restaurant had good food and service. My biggest negative is the noise in the rooms. The hallways really echo and could use better sound absorption
Jaime, 2-night trip

8/10 Very good

Volcano house was very comfortable old lodge style hotel. Beds were comfy. We did need to ask for additional towels, glasses, coffee mugs & coffee since there were 3 of us on reservation but room only was equipped for two. Had a wonderful dinner in their restaurant but morning brunch was terrible. Not much to choose from and several items were cold. We did enjoy our stay. The view is fantastic!!

The rooms need updating, it's extremely dated especially for the price they are charging
Christina, 1-night trip

6/10 Good

Convenient location in the park. Other than that multiple failure of the safe, no housekeeping, outdated rooms, no TV. Unfriendly service at the restaurant. Burger was absolutely undercooked.
Silvia, 3-night trip

The property is great, love that everything is within reach and don’t have to get out of the resort, however, check in lady Eliza could use a little smile on her face and be friendlier, they don’t cost her anything. Yes, we check in late because we just reserved the room last minute at 8pm, but we don’t owe you anything, in fact, you should be thankful that customers are paying for your job. It’s my birthday weekend!

Volcano House, located in Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, is a hotel with a restaurant, a walk-in gift shop, historical displays, and a breath-taking view of Kīauea, an active shield volcano, right from the windows. You are also able to walk outside to look at the volcano, as well as exploring other areas of the national park, such as the Sulphur Banks/Steam vents trail, and many others. Even though we only stayed for a day, the overall conditon of the hotel is relatively clean and well-managed. The staff were polite and kind. The rooms provide accomodations for those who struggle to sleep at night. There was little light pollution, making it easy to stargaze right outside the hotel. We were able to explore most of the overlooks and trails we wanted to see since the hotel is walkable, making these areas easy to access. Overall, I recommend staying at Volcano House if you are planning to spend a day at the national park, even if it's just for one night.
