The Savoy is an oasis in central London.
Once you step beyond the door you are a world apart from London. It is so quiet, so calm, and so tranquil in the Savoy. This hotel is special. I almost don't want to write this review in case I find there are no rooms available next time I try to book. The location is great, 3 or so minutes of a walk from Covent Garden. The accommodation is faultless. But the staff are the prime reason for booking here. Examples; 1) You never see them (the service staff) ..............but whenever you return to your room they have tidied up and made the place perfect again. 2) They think of even the smallest details. My fiancee and I were walking toward an elevator (lift) and we were fifty to a hundred feet away when a member of staff saw us coming. He stopped what he was doing to call the elevator for us. It arrived as we did. He said good afternoon and went about his business. It may seem like nothing, but this level of forethought is a rarity. 3) We wanted an afternoon tea (my fiancee is American and wanted the experience) and so we asked the concierge regarding tea at the Savoy and tea at the Ritz. Obviously tea at the Ritz is more famous. To cut a long story short, the concierge manage to get us a reservation at the Ritz for tea the next day. This is something that a mere mortal could not have done. You would have to book well in advance. The concierge desk at the Savoy has deep connections. They can work wonders.... and they are so pleasant as they perform their miracles.

Simply the Best
Our visit to The Savoy was a special treat for my birthday. We booked a one night stay and also booked to see The Motown Musical at The Shaftesbury Theatre. I watched the programmes on the tele when The Savoy was being renovated but nothing prepares you for the absolute opulence & first class professional service provided by all of the hotel staff. Everything about the hotel is breathtaking. From the minute you are greeted by the impeccably dressed door staff, to the welcome you receive from the hotel personnel, everyone is made to feel so important. What is the lasting memory that I will take away from our first and hopefully not our last visit to The Savoy. Was it breakfast in Kaspers Bar overlooking The Thames or was it listening to the piano player serenading guests having afternoon teas. Those are only two of the many memories I will take away from such a magnificent hotel experience but there was so much more. I know it is not cheap to stay at The Savoy but I would rather have one night there than a week somewhere else. The Savoy is not just a hotel break it is a hotel experience with the most professional and welcoming staff I have met. My only regret is that we didn't stay there longer. Another good tip, The Motown Musical was brilliant and well worth a visit.

Very good 8.0
The staff was nice and friendly. The person who check us in told mu husband and I that anything in mini bar was free. We consumed a few items. When checking out we weee told it was not. However, they did not charge us due to miscommunication. Also, the Sacoy Grill double charged us. It took a while but was finally corrected. What we didn’t like was the food at Savoy Grill. Mediocre at best. Order creamed spinach and it can like steamed but with a sauce that was like milk constentcy. The manager came over and said that it could not be remade. Took off bill. The beet and burrata salad was not seasoned at all. Bland. Buy this time I was exhausted. Just didn’t eat it and let it go. Thw waiter spill wine on table cloth. The whole experience was painfully and I was so looking forward to it. They need to refocus there attention to detail. Many other restaurants for much cheaper.

Staying at the Savoy
The Savoy was as elegant as always. From approaching the main entrance via the court yard with the impressive Lalique fountain and the greeting door men to the comfortable beds in the lovely appointed room. It has been some years since the extensive refurbishment during which time the hotel was completely closed, and this is can be seen with some slight wear and tear. But on the other hand the old building benifits from the patina which adds to the overall experience. The location is just a few minutes of walking distance from Trafalgar Square. Taxis are always standby at the hotel. The room overlooked the Thames but a lot of trees in the park obstructed most of the view. The room was on the third floor. Room decore was in classic style. There are two types of rooms, classic and Art Deco, the latter being my preference. Rooms also have both bath tub and separate shower with detachable handle. In the hotel is the elegant cocktail bar American Bar which is well worth a visit. The hotel attracts many outside visitors, especially for Afternoon Tea. The lounges, bars and restaurants can be quite crowded from time to time.

Perfection on the Thames
What makes the Savoy exceptional is the service. The room was okay, but nothing special for an upper echelon property. The only problem with the room was that the shower was accessible only over the tub wall without any grab bars within reach. I ended up showering in the gym locker room with an easily entered shower. The staff was amazing, entertaining all of my requests immediately. For instance, I asked where the closest post office was, and they said to just bring whatever I had that needed mailing and they'd cover it. And breakfast! Opt for including breakfast with your room: it was all a la carte plus you could get anything else within reason off the menu. I was so starved for greens midway through the trip and asked for a salad instead of the high-carb offerings. And what a gorgeous salad it was. Plus freshly squeezed tomato juice, multiples on the cacpicinos and lattes, and beautiful breads. A treat and the river view is extraordinary. A great hotel albeit pricey, but I knew that going in.
