The three things I look for in a room are safe, relatively clean, and relatively comfortable. I stayed in an El Jefe room which met all of these requirements. Since I planned to spend most of my time out and about, I did not need a lot of amenities.
The bed was comfortable and the pillows were great. The air conditioning worked very well and the shower had plenty of hot water flowing well. It is only a short 5 minute walk to the Redfern station and it felt safe to walk there as a single female.
This hotel is right by a major road and the train tracks, so there is a lot of traffic noise. This doesn’t prevent me from sleeping, but if it’s a concern for you, consider ear plugs a must.
There is only a small fridge, but no microwave. There are a few hooks for hanging stuff and three bureaus drawers, but no closet. There is no table and chair in the room.
The street taco stand in the main lobby is very delicious when it is open in the evening, but I only found it open on Tuesday and Thursday.
I would stay there again because it met my needs well. If you need luxury, this might not be the place for you.
