About this home

If there is a travel ban to Eleuthera or a 14 day quarantine that disrupts your trip we will waive our cancellation policy and offer you a free no penalty reschedule.

The Jungle Cottage was completed in 2018 and quickly earned Premier Partner status as one of the top rentals on VRBO/HomeAway. In addition, our other properties have of hundreds great reviews online so you can reserve your stay with peace of mind knowing we offer great rentals as hosts. We have a trail that goes down to the beach. We provide with an awesome Trip Planner document which helps you with everything from booking travel and reserving a discounted rental car, to what to pack and things to do like "swimming with the pigs." Sorry, but we cannot accept any service or therapy animals due to extreme allergies in our own family. Now for our property description;

The Jungle Cottage is a simple, but very cute and affordable beachfront property that is perfect for beach fanatics, eco adventurers and nature lovers. When you first pull into the driveway and exit your vehicle you will be greeted by a meandering wooden boardwalk which snakes its way to the cottage between natural fissures in the Earth and the natural tropical foliage. We have a number of small coconut palms we planted as well. You are just 2 miles from Gregory Town where you have many bars and restaurants, a few gift shops, an ice cream store, a liquor store, a gas station, two food stores and free Wi-FI at a number of places. The air conditioned cottage is tucked away inside the island forest with nice foliage views from most windows. Note from the cottage itself you do not see the ocean although depending on the winds you can certainly hear it. To get to the sea there is a really cool beach trail with breathtaking ocean views as you walk down. It is roughly a 3 minute walk with stairs in any steep spots. It is something right out of a Robinson Crusoe movie. The property borders a huge government owned nature preserve on the south side that goes for many miles. Our beach, called Surfer’s Beach, is not only one of the nicest beaches in Eleuthera, but also in the world. The seascape provides stunning natural cliffs and rock formations on the north end along with a mile long stretch of deep soft sand as you walk south. The swimming, snorkeling, fishing, spearfishing, shelling and beachcombing are superb. At the right time of year the surfing can be excellent also which is certainly fun to watch. Most days you can walk or swim all along the beach and not see a soul. A crowded day might be a few folks surfing and one or two local people searching for sea shells or playing with their dogs. Most people visiting call the beach paradise.

Waking up each morning to the orchestra of singing birds, grabbing a cup of coffee and sitting in our hanging hammock chairs inside the fully enclosed screen porch is a true slice of heaven, at least for us. Humming Birds and Yellow Crested Herons, along with other wildlife frequent the property grounds in the natural forest environment. If you are patient and quiet you will be rewarded most times with a variety of chirping birds communicating just outside the cottage. The Jungle Cottage is a very nature oriented experience along with numerous amenities to keep you comfortable. Keep in mind it is a jungle setting so you will see lizards and all sorts of wildlife. Nothing

dangerous, but just letting you know it is a very nature oriented experience.

Warning; if you are not familiar with Eleuthera the roads are not the best. Pot holes are common on the main road and the side roads are fairly bumpy dirt roads and very dark at night so be prepared for some adventure!

The open concept studio style cottage is just over 450 sq ft, including the screen porch and was completed by one of the island’s top builders in late 2018 who we have known for many years. We furnished it with everything you need to be comfy, from linens and bath towels (and beach towels) to hanging hammock chairs and a beach umbrella along with decor from Pier One and Home Goods. You will find glossy hardwood floors, accent trimwork around the doors and windows, 12 foot open beam cathedral ceilings in white with exceptional woodworking. Both the inside and the outside screened porch have ceiling fans along with an ECO friendly 23 seer AC system for robust cooling without much in the way of energy consumption. The roof is brilliant white all aluminum which reflects the sun’s rays and transfers heat off the cottage for further cooling. The screen porch has comfy wicker seating for two and there are also two hanging hammock chairs which guests love. There is a sliding glass door and lots of windows to let in a calming natural light. It has a gorgeous large full kitchen with everything you need for cooking complete meals; including a built in microwave, a full size sink, a full size fridge/freezer and a full size range with oven and range hood. The kitchen island is huge along with 4 stools for seating. There is a beautiful aqua colored glass tile backsplash above the counters with complimenting 3 glass hanging pendant lights for a romantic lighting effect. The cabinets are “old school” hand crafted island style with 100% real wood inside and out along with beautiful bar style wooden countertops with a heavy clear shellac. The small living area is open to the kitchen and has a comfy love seat and nice size coffee table with a wall mounted flat screen TV. There is a DVD player along with a very nice library of about 50 movies that sit on a shelf below the TV. There are also some games as well such as Jenga, Dominoes and playing cards. The bathroom is fully enclosed, with walls going to the ceilings for privacy, along with a pretty spacious tile walk in shower. There is an exterior commercial grade exterior "park style" charcoal grill for your fresh seafood. An added bonus is our outdoor shower. A note - there is no hot water in the outside shower, but hey it's a tropical island right? And of course, yes we have hot water inside the cottage in all sinks and the shower.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT SLEEPING AND PRIVACY: The cottage is perfect for 2 people, but it can sleep up to 4 people. However, this is not a place for 4 adults to rent. It's is for 2 adults, meaning one couple or for parents with up to 2 small kids. Let us explain the layout so you know what to expect; Aside from the fully closed in full bathroom and large separate screen porch, the cottage is one large open studio style space with no walls or private bedrooms. There is a sturdy island-made wood framed queen bed for 2 adults and there is a queen size blow up mattress we keep in the closet that would lay on the floor which is quite comfortable. It comes with a hand pump for your convenience. It can be leaned up on its side by the TV area wall or placed on

top of the queen bed during the day so it is out of the way and you can move about. Just understand it is a tight fit for 2 adults and 2 small kids, but some families, like ours, do not mind that as we are always out and about exploring. Another important note, The Jungle Cottage is a guest cottage, which is part of a larger property with a main house called Eleuthera Villa which we also own and rent out. The main villa is located way up the main driveway along the top of the ridgeline. The cottage is set down lower on the property and has its own driveway and boardwalk entrance and is a separate rental from the other house. There is a small laundry and supply building the cleaning staff uses between rental turnovers which is situated behind a large fence for your privacy. We have one neighbor to our north and no immediate neighbors to the west or south. The ocean is to the east. Overall the Jungle Cottage is in a very private part of the island. Most guests have commented that found it to be peaceful, romantic and relaxing.

While we do not have tradional internet such as Wi-Fi you can access the internet with the use of your cell phone. Let us explain in detail; If just checking emails and general internet browsing is your goal you should be able to work it out. What we do is turn "data roaming" on with T-Mobile which is our cell phone carrier. Sometimes we get a decent signal in the cottage 2 - 3 bars and other times we must walk to the beach trail ridge top for a better signal which is 3 - 4 bars with T-Mobile. Internet signals on the island are notoriously inconsistent so be ready to have some patience. Also when driving when you hit Commonage Road, just a half mile from our cottage, the signal is always consistent for us, as are most towns along the Queen's Highway. So if checking emails a few times a day is critical like it is for our business, this should be just fine for you. Check with your carrier to be sure prior to your trip as to what options you have. Some people rent local cell phones or change out SIM cards for local ones on the island, etc. You can also contract BTC which is Bahamas Telephone Company for further information. Many places offer FREE traditional Wi-Fi just 2 miles away in Gregory Town, for example, Unca Gene’s Bar and Restaurant is one spot. If you have further question about this topic just ask. Thanks.

Aside from spectacular Surfer’s Beach which is located at our property, there are a ton of beautiful beaches just a 10 minute drive away or less, along with an abundance of other island attractions such as; the Queen’s Baths, the Rainbow Bay Cliffs, the Glass Window Bridge, the Blowing Hole, the Glass Window Ocean Cave, the Hatchet Bay Caves, etc. Also some of the island’s top restaurants are very close by such as; The Cove Resort, Front Porch Seafood, Twin Brothers, The Rainbow Inn, The Leo Rose, Unca Genes, Daddy Joes, etc. Many of those are top rated on TripAdvisor.

Thanks for considering renting from us!!!

    Mother Nature Approved

We really liked the tucked away feeling sitting on the screened porch. The trail behind the cottage is perfect for a fun adventure or crosstraining dream, burn baby burn. Loved it and hit it every chance we got. The pot of gold down the stairs is cool even in the heat of the day, wish I had my hammock. We come to Eleuthera a couple times a year and found this cottage a great value, clean and new. Perfect in every way. Thanks from the Blanco's for such a fun stay.

    35th anniversary

I am familiar with the area from past trips to Eleuthera so the remote location was ok for us, it was the quiet place we were looking for. Liked the cottage and the location was ideal for the areas we wanted to visit Wish the trail to the top of the hill was easier and there was no place for us to sit and enjoy the views of the ocean. Felt that the deck should have been a common area for both houses or another set of chairs for the cottage. We were disappointed we couldn’t spend more time enjoying the views from the top of the hill The outdoor furniture love seat inside the cottage was very uncomfortable to sit on for any length of time, recommend a new more comfortable couch. Luckily we had great weather so we didn’t spend much time indoors We had an awesome time and really enjoyed our stay, looking forward to going back someday.

    Perfect dose of privacy

After a VERY long year my husband and I who are both first responders really needed a mental and physical break from COVID, US politics, homeschool, and all that the last year entails. We found exactly what we needed in Marielbys & Tommy’s jungle cottage. It is cute, clean, and super private. It came with everything we needed to come fresh lobster purchased right off the dock, to catch up on quality sleep, to read in the hammocks on the screen porch, and walk to surfers beach to enjoy sunrise. If what you are seeking is tranquility look no further. We will definitely be back.

    Covid traveling with great details.

We traveled here during covid and the challenges that brings but the owners gave such great details about the property and surroundings that made traveling easier. They gave handy explanations about how to use internet, and how to make the 1 bedroom into sleeping for 3. If you do travel here soon be aware that most things are still shut down. You are able to get groceries, but extremely limited eating out options near by.

    Lovely Small Private Cottage

This is a really nice small cottage for a couple in a very private quiet setting. The jungle literally wraps itself around this cute little place. Surfer's beach is just over a large bluff, and you have your own path. On Saturday of our visit, there were numerous people surfing in large waves (great video). The cottage is open, nicely decorated and has everything a couple could want. Kitchen in one corner, small sitting area with TV, in another corner - sleeping across from that and shower/restroom in the last corner. The screened in porch became our morning and early evening place, peaceful, listen to the birds and gaze off at the cottages on the far hills. Perfect for two, it is newly built (we were the third couple to stay there). The hosts are absolutely superb, furnish you with literally everything you need to know about the rental, but also have great advice on Eleuthera. Tommy even called me before we left the US to see if we were all set and needed anything. You should have a rental car, and we used Chris and Cruz, recommended by the hosts - this really worked very nicely. They are concerned that you have a really good experience. Gregory Town is a good place to use as your base, and there are a number of good snorkeling beaches close by. Our routine soon became breakfast at the cottage, beach, snorkeling, late lunch (2 to 3 PM) and back to the porch with a light dinner later. Down to Governor’s Harbour twice for different beaches and good restaurants. We didn't really want to drive and travel in the dark so this really worked nicely. This was a great Bahamian culture trip (non-tourist). Can't say enough positive things...

Missing the jungle cottage and Eleuthera already

We are people who do not return to the same place twice. I think we seriously are rethinking that policy since we can't get this gorgeous island and peaceful jungle cottage out of our head. If you are reading these reviews and think this is the type of place you'd enjoy, I would say just book your trip now and you won't regret it. This is a special and rustic won't find continuous wifi, the roads can be super rocky and rough and road signs are few and far between but that is the charm and magic of this place. The beaches have to be seen to be believed...the blues of the water, the white/tan/pink of the sands with such diversity between the Caribbean and Atlantic sides you will never run out of places to explore. If I regret anything, it is only staying for 1 week instead of 2. A word about the jungle cottage - it is perfect for a couple and very well thought out as far as layout. Most any cookware you could want is provided as well as a few pantry staples. Buy lots of water when you arrive and bring anything additional that you may not find in the stores here...we brought specific coffee grounds that we like and very glad we did. Don't rely on credit cards as there were many places we went that didn't take CC's or had their machine down for whatever reason so bring lots of cash. Bring Keen's or something with good soles to do the beach trail by the cottage and some of the more rocky sites on the island. Also bring a small flashlight as it is super handy when getting stuff out of the car in the driveway and when navigating beach trail at night to see stars. Also I'd recommend that when you get the trip planner from Marielbys and Tommy, try and print some offline maps for some of the destinations you are interested in so you have that ready as GPS most likely won't work without special arrangements made. In addition, use the that awesome trip planner from the hosts and print it all out. If you are like us, you will be referring to it constantly!

We loved the everything about the Jungle Cottage. First starting with the information packet we received. It was very thorough and told us just what we needed to know. The cottage was exactly as advertised. It was small but perfect for for the getaway my wife and I had in mind. It was clean when we got there and obviously well cared for. We loved the porch and the grill was a very nice bonus. Best of all the beach was simply fantastic. I did hesitate to post this as I know it means it may be harder to rent next year ;-)

    Wonderful Stay

My family and I enjoyed a wonderful pre-Easter stay at the "Jungle Cottage". We have a 12 year old boy and the three of us actually had space during our stay. I would think it would be the perfect size for a couple though. We're surfers and I must say that this is a premier location to Surfers Beach. Two of the days during our stay the waves were excellent. We were the first ones out because of our proximity to the beach each day. We took the nature trail but would occasionally walk the road back to the Cottage as it was longer but a less challenging walk with gear. Eleuthera is a beautiful island and the hosts provided us with a travel packet that was really helpful. All of their reccomendations were spot on. Fishing with Ryan Neilly from Spanish Wells was probably the highlight of our trip. I would highly recommend him. We had to call Cecil the caretaker twice during our stay. Once to bring lenins for our son's mattress, and another time to switch water tanks. He's a really nice guy and took care of our requests within 15-20 minutes. The cottage was very clean and all items advertised were provided. We even had a bag of charcoal for the grill which was not mentioned. Someone may have left it but it was a welcome find under the counter. The porch was my favorite spot for chilling out in the evenings with the breeze or morning coffee. A nice touch was the DVD collection the hosts provided. I felt like a personal collection and it was probably 25-30 of the best movies of my generation. We watched one each night. The shower worked great and heat was provided by a tankless water heater which of course never ran out of hot water. One thing you can't see from the booking pics is shelving opposite the foot of the bed. There are 4-5 large shelves that really helped with storage. Small suitcases or bags can fit there and the bed is high enough to slide items under the bed also to clear up floor space. Before closing I will mention that the nearby Cove Resort, which is first class, will allow day guests for a fee. $50.00 per adult and $15.00 per child. It opens up all of their amenities; snorkeling, paddle boards, kayaks, endless pool, bar and restaurant services. We spent a nice day there relaxing and soaking in the luxury as a change of pace to busy adventures around Northern Eleuthera. It was a great week and do not hesitate to book this cottage. It's top notch and communication is great if you have a need or concearn.
