Beautiful area of Paris but OKAY room
Before I start, I will say that the location of this hotel is PERFECT. It’s in the 3rd Arrondisment and has everything you may need or want all within a block. It is not touristy whatsoever and there are great restaurants, boulangeries, grocery stores, the park, etc all right there. What I love about the hotel is that it was super clean. No mold anywhere- no filth. All very clean! For the negatives, it was very very warm in the room. Thank goodness it wasn’t too hot of weather for July bc I would have died. I know Parisians don’t care as much about the AC, but unfortunately we are so used to being able to cool down with AC that it was hard to cool off In the room. It “had” AC (that was technically a recirculatory fan system that only had one setting) but it was barely blowing and we even had one man working check it out for us but he said it was working fine. Even after it running all day and night it would only cool off the room a few degrees. Also, the room is super super tiny and tight. A bit uncomfortable at times with luggage and staying for 4 days. However, because it is clean and a quiet street, I didn’t mind that so much. You will not be sitting anywhere except for the bed. Housekeeping was very nice and attentive as well as the super sweet people working at the front desk who were always willing to help or give directions. At night, it is very quiet even in a busy little district! Overall it was a 3 star hotel as advertised.

Solid 3 stars in awesome location
We had a really great time in Marais! The hotel staff was very friendly, attentive, and helpful. They provided great recommendations on what to do in the area (the market right across Bretagne is AMAZING, not sure we would have found it if they hadn't mentioned it). While it's a little far from the main sights of Paris, we really enjoyed the charm of Marais and were happy to walk or catch the Metro (there are many close stops but Republic was our go to because it has variety of connections). Some of the drawbacks: -While the lobby is updated and bright, our floor and room were very dated. The stairwell (spiral stairs) and our floor were very dark. -One half of the bed in our room was extremely uncomfortable and had no support. Looking back we wish we had brought it up to the staff. -Towels were hit or miss. A few days we had no issues, others they were dirty/had stains. -Elevator/lift was approximately 2 feet by 3 feet in size. We expected this because of other reviews but it was still a tight squeeze. -The room is also small. We got an upgrade and joked that we weren't sure how we would have made the smaller room work. Again, we expected this because of other reviews but if you're looking to spend any time in the room, this may not be the hotel for you. Overall, this is a great budget hotel in an awesome location. We were glad that the room size pushed us to get out, even when we were tired or it was raining. Enjoy your time in Paris!

Great small hotel in a perfect location
Others have said that the room was too small, etc. but we found it just fine. The room is a great deal for Paris for the price. Sure, it's small, but still room for a separate bathroom, in-room ironing board, etc. We also were in a busy district, but faced the courtyard, which was SO quiet. I thought the beds were very comfortable, which is a big one for me. The area is perfect, with a lot of buzzing cafes around the corner, a market, a pharmacy, and the Marche des Enfants Rouge right across the street. We couldn't find anything to do on a Sunday night because everything was closed, and Francisco at the front desk gave us some expert local tips. Ended up at an underground jazz club and had a blast. Would definitely stay again.

Classic French Hotel in the Marais
This is a lovely, small, French-style hotel in the Marais near Place de la Republique. Rooms are uniquely decorated and have good amenities, including a mini-bar and coffee/tea-making facilities in some rooms. The staff was very helpful with booking taxis, providing directions, and relaying messages to my traveling companions. Rooms can be small, as is to be expected in the older Parisian buildings. Book a deluxe room to get more space. The lift is also small and accommodates two people at a time, or one person with luggage. I did not try the breakfast, so cannot comment on that. The best feature is the location. The hotel is just 5 - 10 minutes walk from the Republique metro station, where numerous lines intersect. Cafes, restaurants, grocery stores, and other shopping are literally steps away from the hotel. The historic Marais district, as well as the rest of central Paris, can be easily explored from this hotel.

Good Value
The Hotel Vieux Saule was a good value. The room was not too small by Parisian standards. The bathroom was ample and clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The receptionists spoke English and French. The breakfast was a very good value (at additional cost) for the price with a good variety, and served from 6:30 to 10:00 a.m. Wi-Fi was fairly strong and consistent. TV has CNN in English on channel 37. The hotel's one disadvantage is that it is located about an 8-10 minute from the nearest Metro stop so in bad weather, this is a small problem.
