Staff are great, the Hotel is not!
The staff in this Hotel are wonderful, friendly and very helpful, I can’t fault them. The Hotel itself is a very different experience altogether. The air conditioning unit in our room sounded like a jet plane about to take off, so much so, we had to choose between lack of sleep because of the noise or lack of sleep because we chose to turn it off! The room needs a massive makeover, for the price we paid over the course of our holiday, we expected better than what we got. The street noise was unbearable. We were situated right next door to the 24hour petrol station and heard trucks and cars coming and going all night. We had Hotel maintenance start at 8.30am the last 3 nights of our stay and a Christian parade blaring out Gospel music at 8.00am one morning. Out of the 11 nights spent at the Hotel, we managed to sleep through just one night!! Our balcony door would not open unless you got two hands on the job and gave it a huge yank! The trek to Waikiki beach was more like a 10/15 minute walk not 3 as advertised, unless there was a secret alleyway directly to the beach no one told us about. This Hotel is definitely on the outskirts, hence the location next to the petrol station. On a more positive note, a huge shout out to the fantastic cafe situated inside the Luana lobby. The staff are incredible, the food is terrific and we would encourage anybody who enjoys a good breakfast to eat there. Overall, a disappointing stay but on the upside the staff and the cafe were fabulous.

Clean hotel
Nice place to stay, but definitely worth less than what we paid (a bit over $300CDN/night). Nice spacious room on the first floor (which is technically the third floor, above lobby and mezzanine). **NOTE: Wifi is only readily available in the lobby to the first floor, so request the first floor if you can** We had asked for a bedroom with 2 queen beds, but received one plus pull out sofa. Definitely not happy to be sleeping on that after paying so much money per night, as the couch cushions were pretty stained and turned over. Free decent coffee in the morning, but no breakfast available. Elevators are very small and one was in process of being upgraded, but took very very long to arrive. Sometimes 10+ minutes, and the doors have no sensors, so an unlucky person can get squished in there. People also had to rush the doors as they seem to move on their own very quickly, which resulted in some unintentional rudeness when we didn't expect people to be leaving it (sorry to the 2 guys my mom accidentally walked into). Noisy at night from the traffic going by, plus the hotel is right next to a gas station. We're from the city, so it wasn't too big of a deal. Not a long walk to shops and beach, about 10-13 minutes to Waikiki Beach. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was very clean. Hotel is quite a bit dated, which is to be expected given the age of most of the buildings here. I would stay again, but only if I'm able to pay less.

Fair 4.0
Overall the hotel is very decent, our room was relatively large though perhaps a bit dated, but clean. Friendly staff when I checked in on a Tuesday night around 9pm. My wife and I were out and about all day on Wednesday. When we got back the room had been turned over nicely. The only thing was that the staff had apparently removed our little welcome folder from the room, the one the room number and key cards come inside of. Normally this would not be a problem except that we had not removed our little $10 per day vouchers. Since we were staying for five days, that was $50 worth of vouchers for the restaurant on the main lobby. I'm sure it was an accident as most of the time that envelope would just be trash, and there would be no reason for the staff to need or want the vouchers themselves. No big deal, we'll just talk to the front desk about it in the morning before the breakfast we were planning on using them for. The next morning, Thursday, I spoke to a woman at the front about it, and her attitude was instantly defensive and obviously annoyed. I let her know what had happened, and that while realizing it was assuredly an accident, we now have five missing vouchers. Instead of even trying to fake empathy, this woman immediately starts in with how they tell you on check in to treat them like cash and if you lose them that's on you. They do not preprint missing vouchers when you lose them. *** See my Yelp review for the rest ***

Better Than Expected 3-Star Hotel
I stayed at Luana Waikiki for the first night of my trip. I wasn't expecting much--just kind of wanted a forward base to figure out what I'd be doing (and what real hotels I'd be staying in) for the trip--but Luana turned out to be a nice hotel. I was in room 1514 (Studio, Kitchenette, Partial Ocean View), on floor 15. Their top floor is 16. Luana is half a mile from the beach, so I didn't think there would be much of a view, but the view was nice. Maybe a 30 degree view of the ocean, with Fort DeRussy between the hotel and the beach. The room was nice, with only minor issues. Generally clean. Maybe one or two stains on the curtain, not a big deal. The kitchenette was large and had lots of appliances and cookware. The mini-fridge was larger than most mini-fridges. If it had a stove and a full-size fridge, it would be a full kitchen. You could almost cook your own meals in it, except it's missing a few crucial items, such as a cutting board and a spatula. The balcony isn't 100% private. It's part of the same physical balcony as the neighboring room. There's a thin separator in between, but you can easily see and hear your neighbors when you're both on your balconies. The photos on were accurate. Some nice Polynesian decor. Some of the furniture is aging, though everything was functional. Maybe a few minor issues with the way the room is designed. The shower head is mounted fairly low on the wall--about 5 feet, 7 inches above floor-level. No USB ports. No desk

Hotel was located in a really nice area (1 block from Tiffany and Company). Sams club & Walmart are about 1 mile away, where we bought our groceries. Rooms were big and comfy. Wine and cheese events were grapes, pretzels, cheese, crackers, wine-4 types, beer-2 types, and water. No morning coffee in lobby like in the pictures, but coffee packets in rooms (this is why it got a 4-i need coffee-lol) Apples at the front desk. You can rent towels from the front desk for free to bring to the beach. They have 2 beta fish you can rent for free at the front desk, and my kids loved this. You get $10 a day per room coupon for breakfast at either the buffet in the hotel or to use at the restaurant at the front of the hotel, you can use more than 1 coupon at a time. (We were there 13 days = $130 in coupons. So, we did the buffet 3 times, $40 each time. The buffet was $18.95 a person, but u can get to go containers and fill them up and bring back to your room.) They have a movie rental machine with movies and PS3 games to rent for free. There is a $25/day resort fee, this does not include taxes. This was very expensive. There is a shuttle that is free to use because its paid for by ur resort fees. It starts at 8:30am at the Luana - and is about a 45 minute loop. There are 2 shuttles that run opposite of each other, so its about 30 minutes before the next shuttle comes. You can be dropped off at any of the hotels that the shuttle stops at, it also stops at the Ala Moana shopping center.
