Hidden Gem in Waikiki --- For locals Too!!!
Extremely clean, just renovated hotel. Beautiful, spacious and the amenites were top-notch. Staff was OUTSTANDING!!! Truly personifies the Aloha Spirit. From the time we checked in with Isaac who was very professional, courteous and great personality and complimentary Tsunami Popcorn, we knew we had found something special. My wife (who is a little claustrophobic and will avoid elevators, if possible) had send a request to be on a lower floor where she could have easy access and use of the stairs and Isaac obliged by putting us on the 3rd floor, with not problem!! Also, they provide with clean beach towels, beach chair if needed, valet parking which is essential in Waikiki and a "continental" breakfast which was so delicious and full....the only thing missing was a meat (bacon, ham, sausage or spam). They had eggs, fresh waffles, pastries, cereals, fresh OJ, coffee....Amazing!!! The next day, James was at the front desk and he was a mirror of Isaac...very professional, courteous and great personality. Our Valet, who i forgot his name (but he has the nice hair) was also extremely courteous and always ready to get our car when needed. Just a great location, staffed by great people and topped off with immaculately clean rooms and a great breakfast. Being local and living on Oahu, we will DEFINITELY be coming back for more vacays!! Everyone who worked here was wonderful, professional, and very friendly. Hands down some of the best customer service anywhere. The property itself is very small and dated. It was as clean as can be expected when the entire building looks to be falling down. I did not trust the balconies as they sagged and looked to be in need of repair. The outdoor pool was the size of a hot tub though much deeper with one side being 6 feet deep and it was constantly in the shade so not very enjoyable. it was also closed for "cleaning" for two days of our stay, The full breakfast was the same everyday consisting of toast, croissants, fruit, yogurt, cold cereal, those microwaved scrambled eggs, and a waffle iron that had a mile long line to use it so no one in my party got a waffle. All the food is located in a tiny little room no larger than a hallway so be prepared to be shoved around quite a bit by all the other travelers. The property does have board games you can use and large outdoor games like checkers or connect 4 which were pretty cool and it is walking distance to shopping, restaurants, and the beach so that was a definite plus. Resort fees of $35 a day covered the tiny pool and popcorn in the evenings I guess? Parking is an additional $30 a day with only valet parking available. Expedia gold members get half off the parking fees. All in all I would say it's fine but a bit overpriced for what you're actually getting. I think I will try somewhere else next time.

Friendly reception staff and comfortable rooms
Lovely hotel, with great friendly check in staff. There is parking available on the street if you don't want to pay the $30 valet parking. It gets full quite quickly but we never had a problem finding a space. The room was very clean & comfortable and the location of the hotel was convenient.... 10 minute walk to the beach. The only negatives were the 'resort fee' which i believe most hotels charge but this does add up every day and i don't think the amenities that you receive for the fee are worth the price. We were supposed to get daily coffee & water in the room but we did not get this and had to keep asking. The breakfast is very basic but ok. The wifi worked great so this was a bonus. The pool was not appealing... It is very very small. There are towels and chairs available to borrow for the beach... this was a nice touch. It was my birthday when we were staying there and the staff wrote happy birthday on the daily actives board and left chocolates in my room... this was so sweet and thoughtful. Overall we were happy with our stay and have rebooked the room for the night before we fly. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Convenient, compact, cheap, clean, and comfortable
So I was only in Hawaii for 11 hours on a pass through, but I have honestly stayed in Waikiki 6 times a year for the last 20 years. So I am very familiar with the good, the bad, and the ugly. This hotel was something else before and not as nice. New owners have spruced this place up to very good modern standards. The only downsides are small rooms with no view and a crazy driveway. There are lanais and a peak at the Ala Wai. The rooms are small by any standard except Tokyo. Maybe on par with a standard San Francisco room. But they are comfortable and well appointed, free k cup coffee maker, big tv with good cable, clean bathroom with good soaps etc, a comfortable bed, free ear plugs (Waikiki has that in common with NYC). Don't try to put 3 people in the regular room. Close couples and even with a small child can get by barely. The pros are location for the younger single set, good prices, and clean and safe. I would stay again when alone but if with family I would find a bigger room, which truthfully I do not know if offered here. They have a free coffee snack bar from 6.30-8.30am everyday. I was out at 5am so used the k cup in the room. But again if budget minded this is a $10 value in Waikiki and maybe more food available, not sure. So if budget and close to bars restaurants are more important than room size and view, then this place will fit the bill nicely.

Great value all around
Coconut Waikiki is a great choice for a moderate-priced hotel in the Waikiki area. The hotel itself is nothing special from the outside (sorry guys, but it's true) but when you get inside it's just lovely. The staff are always friendly and helpful, the common spaces are clean and full of unexpected treats like flavoured water and a popcorn machine as well as a stellar continental breakfast that is included in the price of your stay (believe me when I say that you will appreciate this way more than you think you will) and comfortable, spacious rooms. Its location is very well-appointed, close to a number of Bus routes to get you to places that aren't walking distance and close enough to Waikiki beach that you can walk there quite easily. The area is pretty quiet and has plenty of eating options around, like Thai, great burritos and an IHOP (a real novelty for someone who is from North America but lives in China most of the year.) If you're the kind of person who leaves the hotel first thing in the morning to explore and doesn't really come back until the evening, Coconut Waikiki is definitely the place for you. It's comfortable, clean, great value and in a very good location.
