Pingtung City is not far from Kaohsiung City. Pingtung residents therefore tend to go to Kaohsiung’s more diverse shopping district rather than shop locally, directly undermining the development of the shopping district in the centre of Pingtung. Fortunately, the opening of Pacific Department Store in Pingtung City has revitalised the shopping district and led to the opening of numerous other stores, including electronics hypermarkets, fashion chain stores, gourmet restaurants, supermarkets, shoe shops and sports equipment shops. Pintung residents can now enjoy shopping locally. The most recent addition to Pingtung city centre's shopping district is the "Pingtung Station" shopping mall, which has introduced many of the brands loved by young people and generated considerable revenue since its opening. You can start your shopping expedition from the train station on foot, and you'll soon find yourself in Pingtung City's thriving shopping district, with a range of shops just as good as you'll find in neighbouring cities. Shopping here is leisurely, relaxing and stress-free.

Taiwan’s traditional markets are always lively and bustling. Merchants shout and sell hard while customers try their best to haggle for the lowest price. Pingtung City West District Public Retail Market is located next to the old community "Dapu Village", which is a traditional market full of vitality. When you come here to buy vegetables and meat, don't just leave after you pay ‒ you can ask the vendor for cooking tips, and they will be more than happy to share their secret recipe with you. In recent years, Pingtung City West District Public Retail Market found itself faced with declining customer numbers. A group of young people in Pingtung therefore decided to organise arts and culture activities and roadside banquets to remind the people of Pingtung of the importance of this traditional market. Thanks to their efforts, the crowds slowly returned, and the old market has been given a new lease of life.
