Aeroseum is a unique museum about the history of aviation where you get a closer look at everything from model planes to exciting exhibitions on how aircrafts have been used to treat whooping cough. In addition to the educational exhibitions on spies, emergency preparedness, atom bombs and much more, you can also check out more than 50 planes and helicopters. The museum is also an experience centre where you can set out on breathtaking flights or comfortably cure your fear of flying.

The whole thing is contained within an enormous 236,800 sq. ft subterranean space, blasted out of the rocks. If you have travelled far to visit Aeroseum, you'll also have the option to hire a camping spot to spend the night.

What are the highlights of the Aeroseum?

No matter if you remember the Cold War or if the Aeroseum is your first real insight into this period which lasted from 1946 until 1990, be sure not to miss the museum's exhibitions on this fascinating and uncertain time. Take a deep-dive into an exhibition on the Cold War and continue on to related sections which cover espionage and the space race between the USA and the Soviet Union.

Have you always wanted to be a pilot? At the Aeroseum you can do just that by booking yourself a spot on one of their flight simulators. Try your hand at steering a classic cruiser such as the Piper PA-24 Comanche, a combat aircraft like the Saab 37 Viggen or a large commercial aeroplane such as the Boeing 737.

Good to know about the Aeroseum

The Aeroseum is located by Säve Airport, to the north of Gothenburg. The easiest way to get here is by car or alternatively you can take the bus from Gothenburg and change at Skändla Rös. The walk from the bus stop takes around 10 minutes. The museum boasts a charming and good-value café where you can recharge after a busy morning of exploring the exhibitions and enjoying breathtaking flight simulations. Remember that some of the flight simulators must be booked in advance. Also inside is a gift store and a second-hand book shop, both naturally focused on the topic of aviation, so be sure to leave yourself some time to explore the shelves.
