Not terrible, but not great
This hotel has seen better days, I'm sure. Let's start with check-in. It went smoothly and I was given the key. The room looked fine if a little faded, lived in. The TV didn't work. Unpleasant staining around the toilet in the bathroom, which was carpeted. On the way out, I told the young woman on reception about the TV and asked that someone take a look. This didn't happen. I asked if she could call me a cab and was given a bit of paper with a number on it to sort it out myself. The bed was super comfortable and I had a great night's sleep. The shower in the morning was good and hot. The optional cooked breakfast was a 'buffet' that consisted of big containers full of not great food. Slimey bacon and sausages, large mushrooms that didn't taste good. Eggs can be cooked to order. There were about 6 people in for breakfast. It could all have been cooked to order, I suspect a lot of those containers of food get chucked or put out repeatedly. In the lounge I asked for a Bloody Mary and I did get an excellent Bloody Mary, top marks. Would I stay again? For just shy of £200, probably not.

Watch dining days and times
I was very much looking forward to staying here but found no food available for me, even though the receptionist said the coffee lounge would be open. I deliberately didn't eat in Hereford so I could enjoy your lounge but it was closed early on Sunday and also no dinner service on Sundays so I had to leave the hotel to eat, by which time coffee houses were closed in town. Such a pity just being to enjoy my room in such a nice hotel.

Not worth the money, run down but staff friendly
Staff helpful & friendly throughout, but we had to change rooms from room 118 as there was a constant loud humming ! (Like being above a boiler room or extractor fan!). The 2nd room was tired & dated, bathroom was dark & dingy, curtains in room & bathroom were yellow, screwed up and filthy ! No secondary double glazing either so we could quite clearly hear everyone speaking/shouting/the base from a bar until gone 1am !! (We were transfered to room 219 which was still at the rear of the hotel) So we had an “ok” stay but very tired now and certainly NOT anywhere near worth even the discounted £95 for 1 night and it was certainly NOT a “superior” room….sorry but not good enough :( nice & central though

Nice enough hotel , decor quite dated in some parts - corridors and stairways . Stayed in diprtior room that although comfortable was heayed by a small electric heater . We also found thst the running water could be a little hotter . Splendid evening meal led to high expectations for breakfast - which wss a bit disappointing ( overcooked bacon ). Friendly helpful staff , especially the cocktail barman .

Tired & tatty
Well this is a review like no other…I don’t know where we stayed but it wasn’t in the same hotel as other people who have reviewed The Green Dragon! On a positive note the hotel is a great location near the cathedral…it’s not the hotels fault but it is noisy with music from other bars and cars revving so maybe be prepared for disturbed sleep. We must have been given the worst room in the hotel that at best could be described as very disappointing….it had a cold unwelcoming feel, walls were incredibly grubby with stains of some sort & chipped paint, this was very noticeable as the room was painted throughout in a dark colour. Unfortunately it had a dirty feel although this wasnt necessarily so…..the bedding & towels were clean. Bathroom was dated & equally had a cold uninviting feel, the bottom of the bath was stained & cracked. This is hardly the luxury room it describes on the outside wall of the hotel, the digital display in the foyer or the photos on websites We didn’t have breakfast included so cannot comment on friendliness of the staff. Our only staff encounter was the receptionists when we were checking in & leaving and they were very pleasant. Sorry to say the best words to describe our room are tatty, tired & grotty We were asked by reception how our stay was & have given feedback. We have been offered a 20% refund on our stay which is something but we consider we still paid too much for the room even with this offer. We await the refund to our card.

Very comfortable
We were stuck in Hereford during a storm, so it was fortunate that they had rooms. We felt it was a bit overpriced, but enjoyed the overall decor and amenities. The bed was extremely comfortable. Could use a few updates, like key cards and coffee machines.

Liked hotel, lovely old fashioned atmosphere and spacious rooms. Had to change room due to unacceptable lumpy mattress. New room mattress was better but still needed to be upgraded or replaced. This one issue spoiled what was otherwise an excellent hotel.

No hot water or heating so cannot rate higher
The overall hotel is fine, but I cannot rate it higher due to the fundamental issues. There was no hot water (on all three days I stayed) and the heating did not work. I was there for a wedding and heard the same from 5 other rooms - so it's not a one off issue- and when I told reception they just said it's an old building and not much can be done. I am quite flexible with hotel issues but a shower for me is mandatory.
