About this cottage

Set above Playa Montezuma in a lush, private tropical garden with spectacular ocean views and gentle sea breezes, this is a quiet haven for relaxation and rejuvenation. Private self-contained Casita with king bed, beautiful bathroom, kitchenette, shared infinity edge pool and yoga pavilion.

Monkeys, pizotes and toucans are regular visitors! The beach, the famous Montezuma waterfall and excellent restaurants are close by.

The Space

The Casita was built in 2014 to accommodate visiting family, friends and coaching clients. It is cozy, quiet and luxurious.

Imagine this - arriving at the property you come to a plateau of tropical plants. You will walk past the main house, the ocean to your left. Past the pool and yoga deck, you will come to a path that leads to the Casita. There you will see papaya trees, helaconias and ginger plants, flowering, colorful bushes and palm trees. The private outdoor patio with its hammocks gives way to amazing expansive views of the tropical foliage below and the ocean.

The undercover patio offers al fresco dining at a beautiful handmade table and chairs from local wood, and a fully equipped kitchenette. Wide sliding doors open the Casita bedroom with its large, comfy king bed, its small inbuilt desk, and at the far end the bathroom.

The property comprises of 2 acres with a main house, an infinity edge swimming pool, yoga pavilion, garage with another guest room and private bath, nursery and the Casita. The garden has an abundance of tropical foliage, and the Casita is very private.

Guests may share the pool and yoga pavilion with the owner and any personal guests she may have for quiet enjoyment between 9am-6pm. Beginning June 2022 there will be a private pool at the Casita for exclusive guest use 24/7.

The entire property is fenced, and a remote-controlled locked gate at the bottom of the driveway offers added security. The structures are not visible from the road, hence very private and safe.

* Interactions

For most of the year, I live in the main house together with my doghter Coco. Coming to Costa Rica on and off for many years, I am available to answer questions, suggest day adventures or destinations, recommend restaurants, and above all do everything I can to make sure that my guests are happy and relaxed!

Occasionally there is a small gentle yoga class on my yoga pavilion, or an aqua fitness group, both of which my guests are always invited to join.

* Nearby

The Casita is located in Delicias, on a cliff above the small bohemian beach town of Montezuma. The immediate neighborhood offers various adventures - the canopy tour, Montezuma waterfall, the butterfly farm, and an excellent restaurant, are all within easy walking distance. The beach is just down the hill, and the town is about 1km from the property.

* Other Things to Note

Wifi is available in the Casita. The download speed allows sometimes slow but sufficient Internet access to stay in touch. Watching movies can be a challenge, though.

My doghter Coco is very chilled-out, friendly and trained. She is free to roam the property, and will probably come by for a visit or two during your stay to make sure all is well with you and to give and receive some love.

*** Answers to some FAQs:

LOCATION: You would fly into the Costa Rican international airport in either San Jose or Liberia. From there you have

various options to get to Montezuma: from San Jose, a shuttle service costs approx $50 per person and takes approx 5.5 hours; for example with Interbus Online or Zuma Tours. A domestic flight to Tambor with Nature Air or Sansa (20 minutes) followed by 35-minute taxi ride to Montezuma. Or, a rental car either from San Jose airport (for example with Enterprise), or from Tambor (with Budget).

From Liberia the transfer is shorter but a 30km stretch of dirt road (construction) between Playa Naranjo and Paquera can be quite challenging (adventurous) for self-drivers, especially after dark. Shuttle transport is available with Tropical Tours Shuttle Services.

GROCERIES: There are two grocery stores in Montezuma. They stock pretty much everything one might need. Also, every Saturday there is an organic produce market in Montezuma.

MEDICAL: A medical emergency service is available in Montezuma. A hospital, pharmacies, doctors and dentists are available in the next biggest town Cobano, about 10 minutes drive away.

    Lokita’s place is awesome!

    We have been visiting Costa Rica since 1997, and Lokita’s casita is one of the best places we’ve ever stayed at. We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary there, and everything was perfect. The location can’t be beat. It’s peaceful and quiet, and just up the hill from Montezuma. From there we visited Curu, as well as Cabo Blanco national parks, went to Cobano, Cabuya, and walked many beautiful beaches. Lokita is a wonderful hostess and we are so glad we were able to enjoy her little slice of heaven. We tried to take her dog Coco back with us but she wouldn’t budge!

    Fabulous view

    We loved the privacy and garden setting. The pool was inviting and the view was stunning. The drive up the hill was challenging , but the ocean view was worth the effort.

    Truly paradise

    Lokita has a lovely landscaped home. The casita, for paying guests, is at the far end of the property with a view that never ends and so much privacy. The paths are beautifully maintained and the plantings complement the location. The casita has an enclosed bedroom and bathroom, both very spacious and elegant. The cooking, eating and living happens on the front terrace. The climate is perfect for outdoor living. We stayed at the beginning of the dry season and had only one day of torrential rain. The outdoor space includes a small refrigerator, a propane powered cook top and a very well stocked kitchen. If something is missing, ask and Lokita will supply it. Essentials such as olive oil, salt, pepper, etc were supplied. We chose to spend a lot of time hanging out by the pool or rocking in the hammocks looking down at the ocean. Down is a key word here, as you will be up a steep hill above Montezuma, which is about one kilometer away. Walking is tricky as the road is narrow and is shared by cars, ATV’s and mopeds. We would walk down and take a taxi back, but it isn’t the most pleasant walk. Having a rental car will open up more possibilities for you and there is free parking at the casita. There are some good restaurants in the area and the beach is beautiful. We loved the Curù Preserve tour. Iguanas will sun themselves on the roof above you and howler monkeys will remind you to wake up for the sunrise. You can’t really get closer to nature and still be pampered than this.

    Wonderful little casita

    We very much enjoyed our stay in the casita. The grounds were beautiful. The view was amazing. It was nice to have the owner on site in case any concerns came up. We didn't cook in at all except for making coffee because we wanted to eat out but it appeared to be well stocked. There are many good restaurants in town, especially if you like seafood but there are also many other good options. As an activity I would suggest, the Curu Reserve which is an hour away but worth the drive for wildlife (especially mammals) and a good natural history tour by the owner Luis. The pool was amazing with a great view, able to do laps and we had it all to ourselves. I noticed the hotels in town don't even seem to have pools. Would definitely return again if we are in the area.

    The property was absolutely wonderful and just what I was looking for. I enjoyed the Casita, the pool was wonderful, the view from the veranda and watching the lightning shows in the evenings beautiful. Lokita was so very helpful before my trip with answering questions, helping with directions and giving restaurant recommendations. I would highly recommend this property for your vacation getaway.

    Private paradise with a stunning view

    Our casita was a wonderful private paradise to call home for our week in Costa Rica. We loved spending our time on the patio, cooking breakfast and dinner (with fresh produce from the Saturday farmer's market), drinking coffee, enjoying the presence of the birds, monkeys, and chirping lizards, watching thunderstorms, and gazing at gorgeous ocean view. The bedroom was large and cozy, with a full view of the outdoors across the patio, and the bathroom had a luxurious indoor/outdoor feel. The aircon provided a wonderful comfort at night. The property is very safe and secure, both the casita itself and the whole property. The pool and yoga hut were both tranquil and rejuvenating amenities. Lokita was a wonderful host, providing great recommendations for our experiences around Montezuma. She was very accommodating with our schedule and was empathetic with our local critter experiences. Coco was an added pleasure to have around. In talking with other travelers staying in the area, this property is certainly a diamond in the jungle. Located up the mountain and away from the town, the location of this home is stellar. We were very pleased with our stay here and highly recommend this property to anyone who is looking for a private casita to call home while visiting.

    Fabulous Stay!

    Lokita and Coco were fantastic hosts. Lokita is so kind and helpful. She made me feel so comfortable. The views a postcard worthy, so beautiful. The casita set up was awesome. I loved the outdoor patio and hammocks. I didn’t have a car for this trip, but I rented an atv and had that for my stay and it was just perfect for the area and a lot of fun. My visit to Montezuma was a treat! Thank you Lokita for sharing your special piece of paradise!
