I had room 207 (shared bathroom). This was facing the street which was pretty noisy due to traffic. I was not allowed to swap rooms. With the windows closed, I could not hear much noise from the street though. I could hear a lot of noise from the room next door. The room was clean with a sink, desk, wardrobe and TV. Wi-Fi was free but not password protected and sometimes had poor bandwidth and dropped connections. It worked well enough for sending e-mails and basic web surfing. I had a lot of trouble using the electronic door lock for my room, in particular turning the door knob. If you have arthritis or other problems with your hands or vision then I think it would be even more difficult. Staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is right next to U-Bahn station Kaiser-Wilhelm-Park. If you go up the first set of stairs from the platforms, then turn right and go up the second set of stairs, the hotel is right by the exit. It is less than 10 minutes from the main train station (Essen Hauptbahnhof). From the Hauptbahnhof, take U-Bahn 17 in the direction Karlsplatz or Gelsenkirchen Buerer Strasse. A word of warning for the train - the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Park station is one of the less busy stations and if you do not press the button to request the train to stop then it may go right past the station (which happened to me!). I was attending an event at the Essen Conference Centre and it is 15 minutes by train from K-W-P station using U-Bahn 11 to Messe West-Sued/Gruga.
