I returned to my room after a day in Lyon & discovered that my room door had been wedged open. My room had been cleaned with nothing more to do. No staff were nearby which concerned me - I looked to find staff to ask why my room was open and was unable to find someone for a few minutes.
Once I found a member of staff, I asked why my room had been left open, noting my discomfort at the fact that passports and items of value were in the room (I had walked straight into my room & stayed for many minutes before continuing to look for staff, & was not confronted on whether it was my room - & did not need a key card to enter. This confirmed that anybody could have entered my room without detection & taken my belongings and that the hotel is not safe & secure).
When I had explained this to the cleaner (via another member of staff who translated me), the cleaner shrugged & it was translated back to me that my room was fine & it had only been a couple of HOURS since my room had been cleaned that morning. They did not care & offered no apology.
I complained to reception, and while they were more apologetic, they lacked sincerity & I had the stark impression that they wanted me to leave them alone.
30 minutes later, my door opened again & another cleaner walked in, despite my room being clean & having confirmation that nobody would enter again. The following morning the room opened again 2 hours before the checkout time.
The hotel offered a low, & unacceptable level of compensation
