Fabulous gem of a hotel
I would highly recommend this property and will definitely return to this hotel on my next trip to Edinburgh. We visit Edinburgh yearly and have stayed in many hotel's. This hotel has the best location, friendly helpful reception staff & beautiful clean rooms. The room we had was 506 for our 2 night stay, it was gorgeous, the fridge had milk and water. they supplied different teas, hot chocolate, coffee and biscuits. The beautiful bathroom had plenty of fluffy towels and nicely scented shampoo, conditioner, bodybwash and hand-wash. The lighting and many lamps in the room gave a romantic feel, felt luxurious & homely. Reception had a Nespresso coffee machine, where you could help yourself to an array of different coffees, they held our luggage when we arrived early so we could explore the town hands free and offered the same when we left. The late checkout is a bonus, because lets face it, who wants to be up early to check out at 9am like other hotel's so their generous 11am checkout is fantastic. Thank you for a wonderful stay, i look forward to returning in the spring

Pretty hotel in great location
The hotel is located centrally in the old town of Edinburgh, which made it the perfect spot for the places I wanted to shop and see. It's only a few minutes walk to the castle, shopping and restaurants/cafes. If you are travelling by train with luggage, you'll want to grab a cab or call an Uber because it's all uphill. I found the staff were very friendly and accommodating. My Junior Suite was very pretty, with 12 foot ceilings, but no view. I kept the curtains closed as people on the street could see in. It also had no heat. This was problematic given that the temperatures were in the negative. I asked for, and received, a space heater...however, if was more of a radiator on wheels and would have taken days to heat that space, if not weeks. This made it very difficult to relax and enjoy the room. There was a heated towel rack in the bathroom, which would have been an amazing feature, but it didn't turn on even once during my stay. The tub/shower practically requires a ladder to get into, but the water pressure was great! Additionally, there wasn't a great place for doing my makeup and hair in the morning, as the bathroom didn't have a fan and steamed up. There was a desk, but with no lighting (not even a lamp), so it's possible that I may have left the hotel looking like a cheap hooker...but to Scotland's credit, no one mentioned it. All in all, while I think that the hotel was a really great option, I don't think I would stay there again during the winter months.

It was a lovely place to stay. Perfectly located with an excellent cafe next door. The room had a few maintenance issues but nothing critical. Just renovating an old building challenges

Great hotel near the Castle by the the Royal Mile
The hotel was lovely, a short walk to the castle and almost opposite St. Giles. The rooms were very comfortable (separate bedroom) and although not spacious certainly adequate. Breakfast was good, buffet style with options of cooked breakfast and continental. Good laundry facilities. Only negatives limit crockery/cutlery and no table to use for a meal. There was a desk with one chair, we ate balancing plates on our laps. There was an error when this booking was made, correct day input, incorrect month. could not help, I emailed the hotel directly, explained the error, ours not theirs and they kindly changed the booking. This was just wonderful customer service and I felt it needed to acknowledged. We would definitely stay here again.

6/10 Good

Great location but a disappointing stay..
Great location just off the Royal Mile. We booked a Junior Suite but were disappointed in the size of the room, it was quite small, we have stayed in much bigger rooms described as standard in other hotels. The room was well furnished and comfortable but was a bit tired; the bathroom basin plug didn't work and the basin itself was 'crazed', there was some evidence of black mould around the bath, the kitchen tap was loose, and the wardrobe door damaged by the door handle. There were some cobwebs at high level, but the room was generally clean. Great to have a Nespresso machine but only two coffee pods were provided, we asked for more but were again only given two. The public areas of the hotel were spotless. The front of house staff were excellent, very helpful and check in/out was easy. We have stayed in Fraser Suites in Glasgow and were really impressed but were disappointed with the Edinburgh hotel. This place has the potential to be really good but we won't be staying here again. We are regular visitors to Edinburgh and there are much better properties of this type available at a similar price.

Not a junior suite
Pictures of “junior suite” when booking were misleading and suggested we had a small apartment with a separate bedroom. This was not the case with the suite description being covered by a sofa in the bedroom. Disappointing. Otherwise the room and service were fine.
