The only minor issue I had was that my room was next to the elevator, which the noise (not terribly loud, but distinctive when quiet) could be a bit distracting when trying to get to sleep.

Wholesome accommodation
Good facility in handy location. Student type accommodation so not everybodys cup of tea but suits me. I like having a restaurant/bar on site and the breakfast is good and plenty of it.

Housekeeping needs improving
Check-in was friendly but didn’t give us enough information to find our room - it was lower ground which was never mentioned. Room was okay for the money - not our choice to be overlooked by a path and the road used for deliveries. We arrived mid-afternoon and fancied a cup of tea. But there were no tea bags. I went to reception to get some but they didn’t have any. They said some would be delivered later but they never were. The next day we left for the day and got back around midnight to find the door open! A pile of laundry had also been left in the corridor. We complained to Lawrence, a manager who said it was below the standards they expected! We didn’t take any chances and for day 2 we put the sign on the door to say they could skip housekeeping that day. On day 3 we left the sign off so housekeeping would visit but when we returned around midnight the room had not been touched. On day 4 we left the sign off again and went for a walk up Arthur’s seat. We returned about 3 hours later and the room had not been touched. When we were having a shower and preparing to go out for the day I heard someone in the corridor so I went out and it was housekeeping so I asked for our room to be cleaned, which it was after we left. Basically, housekeeping needs to be managed better. Breakfast was okay - a good variety but some things were a bit bland eg eggs, tomatoes. There was an ATM on site but it charged a £1 for withdrawing cash! The gardens were amazing - very exotic.

Nice One
Pollock Halls is amazingly well managed - friendly staff, thoughtful facilities, green policies and extremely cheap for what it provides. The students who are the usual residents are so lucky in having such a well-run campus (given that over a thousand people can be in residence), All the staff, whether gatekeepers, gardeners. reception or kitchen staff (free breakfast included!!!!) are so friendly. The place is a great example to all other such establishments. Well done,Pollock Halls!
