Nice hotel but completely let down by its staff
The hotel itself is nice and very close to Central Station which is why I booked it. The room was nice and clean, cool design. It would have been perfect had I not encountered the terrible reception staff. Arrived slightly too early for check in (by about 15 minutes), most hotels would actually check if the room was ready but the receptionist I had the misfortune of dealing with was very rude, refused to even check and kept saying that check-in was at 3pm. There were so many people in the same situation, the queue at reception was actually all the way out the door. People were asking to store their luggage until check-in which was clearly not what the receptionist had planned, she was once again extremely rude and openly mocked customers with another colleague as she was finally sorting out the luggage. I chose to keep my luggage and went for coffee next door (better staff) and came back at 3 to be treated very rudely by the same receptionist. Throughout the stay, walked passed reception several times as it's a narrow corridor to get out yet none of the reception staff even were polite enough to respond to hello. Finally had to wait for 10 minutes on the last day because the receptionist was busy chatting to her colleagues at the café and arranging her breakfast, the reception was left unmanned with not way of calling. I stay in 100s of hotels and I must say, this has been one of the worst reception I have had in ages which is a real shame as the hotel's otherwise nice.

Poor 2.0
Terrible service
I forgot my wallet when I checked out. I was relieved to find that it had been handed in but as soon as I opened it I saw that the cash had been taken out. Upon reporting this the receptionist was quite helpful and empathetic. I was very calm and patient at first and was only reporting the incident to warn the hotel of dishonest staff I had no intention of claiming anything as it was around 30 euros and I was getting ready to depart Amsterdam. I was taken to the head of cleaning who told me I had to prove I had money in my wallet and outright told me I was lying about the money ever being in my wallet. Considering I was not making a claim I'm not sure what I would be looking to gain from this. I also found the request to provide proof of the cash in my wallet a rather strange request. I was absolutely disgusted by her complete lack of understanding on how to speak to guests. I have never been so offended in my life and I can say as someone who works in the travel industry and makes many hotel bookings I have never heard of such appalling service. I would safely say I would never in a million years recommend this place to a friend or a client or anyone.

Great Location, Underwhelming Hotel
This hotel is interesting in that it has different star-rated rooms available. My husband and I chose a 3-star rated room expecting that it would be above basic but wouldn't have any crazy amenities. Once we were in the room, we realized it had no amenities. It felt more hostel-like than hotel-like. Our room was 104, right next to what I believe was the storage room. During the early evening we heard frequent banging and loud music coming from it. Luckily we weren't disrupted at night by other guests getting off the elevator/stairs. The room was equipped with a Dyson fan as there is no air conditioning. We stayed in early April so this was not an issue but it kind of felt stuffy. I think it'd be tough to stay there in the summer. I was intrigued by this hotel because of the art aspect but our room was all white/cream but not in the fresh/crisp sense. It felt more generic and kind of old and outdated. If you like a somewhat spacious bathroom, I do not recommend the 3-star room. It was a flat tile floor with the shower (separated only by a curtain) next to the toilet, which raised above the floor of the rest of the bedroom. You'll need to be careful running the shower so as not to soak the rest of the bathroom, or have water run off from the bathroom floor to the bedroom floor. Overall, I think this hotel is nice if you just need a basic room for a night with a convenient location. I could see a room towards the front of the building being a bit noisy at night though.

DAM Fine Hotel
What can I say We had a fabulous time at the Hotel Exchange you could not wish for a better location Right in the heart of DAM Row. The Staff were lovely and helpful even rang to arranged our transfer back to the airport. The hotel is very different from a usual hotel but in a good way the only way I can think of describing it is its like staying in an ART Gallery. The bed was second to none I have ever experienced at any hotel and there were English channels on the TV to. The only slight let down was no brewing gear in the room well you need a brew in the morning don’t you. Its location is just fantastic literally a two-minute stroll from the shops a three-minute stroll from DAM square its self a three-minute stroll from the red-light district and the canal trips are just across the road from the hotel. Getting there is simplicity in its self we booked transfers but to be honest when we go back and we most certainly will the train is the best option about 8 euros one way each and the station is in the airport literally and DAM central station you can see from the hotel doorstep. Out and about there are loads of things to do and our highlights were the red-light district I was gobsmacked it’s just so civilized ok you do have the ladies of the night in the windows and the wacky backy cafes but it’s not intrusive and the atmosphere is great we spent many an hour just chilling in one of the outdoor pub terraces chatting to loads of people from loads of different countries. Good location but hotel not as advertised.
This is a well located hotel that advertises rooms up to five star. We booked a four star room for two nights paying UK London four star marker hotel prices. Unfortunately this hotel has average small two star rooms with unusual decoration as it's gimmick. The room (603) in which we stayed was no more than two star with a tiny window looking out on the rear of adjacent buildings, we actually booked a room with a view, at least it was fairly quiet, but also a very dim room requiring the light on at all times. There are no services offered that one would expect for a four star room. No coffee machine or tea on offer in the room, also no bottled water. When this was raised with reception, we were told to drink the tap water. There are no facilities, no cooked food or alcohol available other than a very expensive vending machine with limited supplies. The small hotel entrance is situated between a cafe and a pizza outlet. Breakfast can be obtained at the cafe, but hotel access is at times difficult due to the numbers of tables and chairs outside the cafe and pizza outlet. The receptionist was pleasant and polite, although clearly well used to guests raising the same issues re lack of services. We walked extensively around the area, we found more appropriate better value hotels offering good service and facilities a short distance away in the museum quarter and adjacent areas. It is approx 15 minutes walk from the central area and worth considering as an alternative.
