A big THANK YOU to the staff of Sand Hotel who greeted us warmly and early at about 6:00 am upon our arrival. Needless to say, our room was not ready at that hour (check-in time is the customary 3:00 pm) but staff allowed us to store our luggage safely and complimented us breakfast for the day. Sooo, appreciated. By 10:00 AM we were notified by phone that our room was ready! Outstanding. We were friends traveling together so opted for the Superior Twin Room. The clean room and twin beds accommodated us nicely though the bathroom was the typical European too small. Yet, we managed. Breakfast—Being from the USA, we may be spoiled by a hot breakfast, and this is NOT to be found here although juice, coffee, tea, fruits, yogurts, pastries, cereals, and processed meat abound, so you will surely find something to satisfy your palette to start your day. Alas, most of our time was spent outside of the room on tours and we welcomed a quiet place to lay our heads at night. On this, Sand Hotel delivers exceptionally.

Highly recommended
Great location. Centre of all the tourist stuff and in line with all the shops. The hotel was comfortable, clean, warm and helpful with suggestions. Breakfast was healthy and available if leaving early in the morning. It was peaceful and a very enjoyable stay. Please note, cars are unable to stop in front of the hotel, as it is a pedestrian area, so bear in mind if mobility issues. But, close to restaurants and bus stops. Would stay there again.

6/10 Good

The rooms were generally OK. The bathroom was an issue. The sink is so tiny, you can’t wash your hands in it without spilling water everywhere. The shower is essentially a glass telephone booth. If you drop something, you must be a contortionist to pick it up. The deluge of water that comes out rushes into the rest of the bathroom like a flood. You have to request extra towels and use the robes to mop it up. It feels like you’re in some sort of torture device and you can’t breathe while the water is coming out.

6/10 Good

The property is clean and well-presented. It is in a very central and active location. Minimal or no view from most rooms. Our room was very challenged. The one outlet on each side of the bed was taken by the lamp, so if you need to plug anything in, you must unplug the lamp. The bathroom was bizarre and laughable. The basin portion of the sink was approximately 6 inches deep. It needed to be that small to fit in the tiny bathroom, but it was SO small that large hands just don’t fit in the sink. You end up running the water at the barest trickle so that not too much water splashes out as you rub your hands above the basin, directly beneath the faucet, which itself is three inches from the edge of the basin. Finally -the shower. Imagine a glass telephone booth. Don’t drop the soap, only a contortionist could retrieve it. There is no lip between the shower and the rest of the bathroom, so don’t you DARE open the door while showering. The drain worked alright but very slowly and there is no way it could keep up with the waterfall-worthy flow of water that quickly started to fill the little booth like some kind of Harry Houdini escape tank. Despite the best efforts at sealing the door, acre-feet of water rushes into the bathroom, requiring all your towels and even the bathrobes to mop up the mess. I am tall enough that I could dodge my head around the deluge, but my wife said it felt like a torture device and at her height she was fighting just to breathe.
