Stay away this Lodge! Beware!
I definitely will not suggest others go to this lodge, Super unhappy experience. Beware of this house and owner, I booked 5 bedrooms but at the end we only got 3 bedrooms. Asked the owner how to get in another 2 rooms and we frankly tell him our plan changed situation so add more member to stay, then he charged us for another 2adults and 3children price ($25 each) even though by right I paid for 5 bedrooms price. Unhappy it’s not because the charges. It’s because when we reach the lodge at 5:30, there is no one at the service counter. Then doesn’t matter, normally other owner will secretly put the room no key or code no at somewhere secret. But not for this lodge owner, he just paste our lodge’s code no at the glass door of service counter, everyone pass by will know our code no, anyone can just press the code and get into our lodge. I feel so not safety for our family and our belongings. The owner didn’t come back to take down then notes!! He only came after he know our members add on, then only within 10 mins he reach our lodge to collect the extra charges! The owner’s attitude was Super bad! If you don’t want to spoilt your holiday mood, just stay away this lodge! This lodge is Super dirty too! I will upload some photo to proof the dirtiness. I just walk around the living room and our rooms, my foot was full of dust and become black! The side table of our room also full of dust and they just keep their extra pillow and bedsheet at Super dirty shelf!!

Great position-right across the road from the lake. Decor is a bit tired. Kids loved it and was fine for a one night stay.

We understand that the name Troutbeck Lodge has been appropriated from the previous lodge situated directly on the lake a couple of doors down which is now a private home. My partner had stayed at the old lodge and had a good experience, we were expecting same. Sadly our expectations were not realised. The new lodge is in fact a collection of straggly motel units and old fishing shacks across the road from the lake. Our room was sparse and grubby. Everything was old, worn, dusty and unclean. We could not stay there and left to find other accommodation.

Great place!
The owner of trout lodge was absolutely lovely and very helpful. He helped us plan our stay in Rotorua. The view from our window was to die for. We were looking directly in front of the lake and could see the sun setting and rising. Great find!

Stunning view
Beautiful view, the owner is in the process of upgrading the facility so the there is some work to be done but it was still a very pleasant place to stay with stunning view of the lake. The building is older, but still in good condition. We enjoyed sitting outside our door having a cup of tea looking out over the lake. We enjoyed our time there.

Run down and in need of some restoration
We were struggling to find something that would accommodate us and our dog and this was one of the only ones. the owner has just taken possession and has big plans but at this stage the place needs a great deal of attention.

Avoid at all costs
Terrible place, is not a nice place to visit. Is very old and outdated, staff are unfriendly and unhelpful. I will never stay here again, it ruined my whole stay in Rotorua and it does NOT look like the photos it advertises!

AVOID
This 'lodge' is not in a tourist area. It is in a run down suburb of Rotorua about 10km from the city centre and has a run down appearance. When we arrived we nearly didn't go in because it looked so uninviting and ended up staying one night only even though we had booked and paid for three nights. It is also very overpriced considering the poor state of the building and surrounding premises, and the very poor location.
