Truly exceptional ryokan. I stayed for 3 nights and wished I could extend my stay. Tranquility, the food, the onsen, the room, the staff - could not ask for anything better.
Ryokan is old but maintained meticulously, room is literally speckless. Facilities include a coffee shop and a lounge, both which are consistent with the traditional Japanese ambience of the ryokan - great places to spend some "me time" or chat away with your loved ones.
Staff is exceptionally professional, thoughtful, and sincere - e.g., one of our family members fell sick during the stay, and staff prepared a special meal for the patient, and helped us locate a local doctor.
Location was amazing, right at the top of kurokawa onsen town - great to go on short walks to explore.
Dinner kaiseki and breakfast were also exceptional; top-notch with local fresh ingredients.
Lastly the onsen - the relatively small size of the ryokan ensures a tranquil experience at the onsen; I had the rotenburo all to myself 5 out of 6 times I used the onsen.
