From the moment I walked into Ocean Inn, I was nervous that I would not get to check into my room that Expedia had accidentally charged me for. I had booked a room for the 6th-7th, a one night stay after flying in and before heading off to the Keys.. Expedia had accidentally booed it for the 5th-6th and I was not even there but in a hotel in Asheville, trying to get some sleep before a red eye flight out the next morning. I woke up at 1am to an email about this problem, asking if we enjoyed our check in. I tried for hours to reach Expedia and finally did and the problem Was brushed under the rug at first. I insisted and Expedia decided to give me a voucher to pay for the night I needed and at the same hotel, Oceans Inn. We were planning to arrive at 8:30 or 9 am to the hotel and I figured they wouldn’t let me check in for the morning but I desperately needed sleep and wasn’t feeling well! I got to the front desk and Phillip greeted me and from the moment he met me he was willing to allow me to check in and after hearing my story, his hospitality kicked into high gear, Phillip gave many suggestions on restaurants and things to do and we chose to listen to them and were so glad we did! The hotel had an older vibe but we have traveled the world and we much prefer the vice at Oceans Inn to that of a chain hotel or resort anyday! The garden courtyard is adorable and we loved our adorable room too! We will definitely be returning!

Okay, so I’ll say this: the property is cute and kitschy and definitely not for someone who is looking to get chain hotel at a cheap rate. This is a cute little motel style room and has a fun 50s hacienda like common area. There are little tables outside your door in the small walkway where you can read and yes, smoke. There is a space in the center common area where there is a large family sized picnic table with shade and smaller one off to the side as well. On the edges there are little shady lounge areas as well as a beach rinse off station. So yes, it’s a little busy in the outer common areas, but it has everything you could need for lounging about and not doing much else if you’d like. Phil was absolutely a dream, the office hours are exactly that and since we were arriving after them, he called and introduced himself and arranged for my key to be inside my room when I arrived. The other guests/tenants were all super nice and parking is included which was fantastic too! Overall if you are a low key traveler (the type to not freak out if you get water all over your bathroom floor because the shower curtain leaked and end up having to clean it up yourself or changing out a sheet or what have you) this place is adorable and a great place to stay for the low rate. Also the beach is right at the edge of the block. Step out on to the sidewalk look to your left and you will see ocean!

Retro beach retreat!
This hotel was very quaint. It doesn’t look that nice from the road but looks are deceiving. Once inside the compound you realize the atmosphere is awesome. There is a small sitting area filled with exotic plants and, a few small seating areas, hammock, picnic table and more. There is a barbecue grill for guests to use and also beach chairs and a boogie board you can borrow. Phillip was very nice, friendly and knowledgeable about where to go eat or local things to do and see. He made us feel like guests at his home rather than just guests of a motel! The room itself was very cute. They supply some amenities so if you are staying for a week it would be possible to cook or reheat some food there and a refrigerator to keep you food and beverages cold. The location is awesome. You aren’t right on the beach but a very short walk to it which is nice because you don’t have to have all that boardwalk noise and people right at your door. It is a cool, retro sheik motel sitting in the shadows of large corporate Hotels. Stay here before it gets bought out and by some large cooperate company.

Find another place to stay
I came to the area for a job interview and needed a one night’s stay. I was called the day before and told that their Inn was under “renovation” and they needed to put me up somewhere else. They assured I would be provided a clean and safe place in Hollywood Beach that would not cost me anything extra. When I arrived at the Dolphin at Hollywood the next day, I found that I was going to have to pay an additional $50 and that I was given a room that didn’t have a working toilet or TV. When I called Ocean Inn, no one helped me with at the very least, the extra cost that they assured me I wouldn’t help to pay. DO NOT STAY HERE OR AT THE DOLPHIN AT HOLLYWOOD BEACH!

Nice hidden gem
Some stuff need to be updated online. No breakfast is offered. Great outdoor sitting, they have a gas grill I assume you are permitted to use, just stayed one night. WiFi works. Room we had was a little studio. I was pleased overall. Had a few things off, couldn't close the bathroom door (door too big for opening). But I was with family and friends, so no one cared about door being cracked. Some people may freak out over that alone. The TV had two remotes, none worked, but heck I don't know anyone that still has cable anymore, I always bring my firestick or Chromecast and hook up to tv. Typical glimpses of house bugs, nothing horrendous. Place had full size fridge, stove, even dinnerware. Small dining table, but eating outside in nice weather is preferred. AC worked fine despite being a huge place, twice the size of a regular hotel room. I would stay again despite no breakfast.
