Valladolid is a stop on Tren Maya. The town was walkable, yet plenty of taxis to get you to wherever you want to go. Plenty of shops & restaurants. We walked all around town, not just in the center. We felt very safe, even in the less touristy parts.

The light show at the convent was pretty, with an English show after the Spanish show at 9:20pm. The Casa de los Venados was much better than I expected, really interesting collection of folk art and highly recommended. Tours only, 3 times a day.

Cenote Zaci is the best value in town -- only 60 pesos and gorgeous. Go in the morning while the waterfall is running. There is also a fantastic bakery nearby, Panaderia la especial, with a wide selection in the afternoon/evening.

We really enjoyed Valladolid. It is quieter than Merida, but had lots of charm. I imagine in a few years it will be much more developed and so I am glad to have stayed there while it was still a more chill and quiet place.

Best to walk near the square and take a Colectivo if you're heading to Chichen Itza. $5 return! Beats the tour buses. There and back before the crowds hit the place.

The ruins at Ek Balam and the Cenote in town and its restaurant were very worthwhile. Lots of good restaurants, however many are overpriced. just look for busy places rather than Tripadvisor.
"We loved our stay here. The hotel, is so peaceful, clean and beautifully traditional.
The food is delicious, very wholesome and made of natural ingredients to order.
All the staff were so helpful and work hard to please. However a big shout out to Noemi who has gone above and beyond her job to organise forgotten laundry to be returned to us. She has been so lovely and helpful. "
"Staff was super nice and helpful. Rooms were clean and set up very cute. Very spacious. Mexico culture felt throughout. Wifi available. You can ask for pool towels at the desk. There is a cute cafe separately owned out front that stayed open late. You can find a convenience store on the next block. You do have to use street parking or pay for a garage. Our family loved it. "
"Quaint little hotel with a nice pool with large cabana with beds and hamacas to lay on. Lush garden surrounding the courtyard. Very clean hotel and friendly staff! "
"Le personnel et particulièrement les femmes de chambre étaient très attentionnées et préparaient très bien la chambre.
Malgré le bas coût des nuits, on a l'impression d'être dans un établissement de luxe avec les hauts plafonds, les arches, les beaux jardins, piscine propre, plein d'oiseaux chanteurs, etc
Le seul petit bémol : mal insonorisé entre les chambres, mais quand même correct. "
