"Lovely olde worlde pub from 1719. Recently refurbished bedrooms, tastefully decorated. Smallish rooms but that is what you would expect in a property of this age. It had everything you needed. Comfy bed too. Didn’t try the breakfast because we had to get off early. Sunday lunch the night before was excellent."

Macdonald Leeming House

Macdonald Leeming House

8/10 Good
"We love the Leeming House Hotel, it is sad though that since it was Trust House Forte, it has gradually become tired, some of the exterior paintwork needs urgent work, the gardens are not what they used to be, the rooms are fine, however loving the contemporary furnishings for the period of the house, it is disappointing that it is all a bit tired, some paint could be bought and A Little love put into the building. On the side of service, I am disabled and my wife went downstairs to get some tea at The about four or 430 in the afternoon and she found someone to order it from, because there was no telephone in the room from which to order room service! And she needed two trays of tea as her sister and brother-in-law were going to join us for tea and she was told that was no problem, but it would be £20 to deliver the tea, incredible for a Hotel of that quality to blatantly charge for something that is a normal service is incredible, obviously we were happy to pay for the tea but it was the delivery also my wife asked for some biscuits and they said they didn't have any!! After lunch with my coffee I did ask if there was any chocolate and Jeff the weekend manager who is so nice said they don't have chocolate in the building however he went away and found some delicious home-made shortbread, what happened to that teatime!! The next morning we had a very nice breakfast, although the enjoyment was dampened as my sister-in-law asked for a latte to be told that was an extra charg"

4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Penrith

  1. Book for the cheapest times: The most affordable time to visit Penrith is during January, February, and November, when hotel prices tend to be lower. For those looking to explore the area's rich history and cultural landmarks, a stay of at least 2 to 3 days would be ideal. Visitors can enjoy the stunning countryside, discover the charming ruins of ancient sites, relax by the serene lake, and take in the majestic views from the hills. Additionally, there are budget-friendly options to unwind at local spas, savour delightful treats at chocolate shops, and unwind in the surrounding forests. Overall, Penrith offers great value for money for those on a budget.
  2. Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: To discover last-minute deals to Penrith, begin by exploring the Deals or Last-Minute Deals sections on Hotels.com, where you may find discounted rates on nearby hotels as your travel date approaches. Consider enabling email alerts or push notifications to stay informed about flash sales and exclusive promotions, ensuring you don’t miss opportunities to save. Additionally, the Smart Shopping tool available via the app allows you to compare hotel prices and amenities, so you could find the best options for your stay. You'll be among the first to know if rooms become available or prices drop.
  3. Be flexible with dates: Prices can fluctuate due to various factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year, so being flexible with your travel dates may help you save on your stay in a Penrith hotel. For those seeking something distinctive, boutique hotels often provide a more personalised experience and, at times, better value. When you book with Hotels.com, we’ll inform you whether the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. If the price is on the higher side, we’ll suggest alternative dates that could be more affordable, helping you to secure a better deal.
  4. Consider your location: Hotels situated near the city centre usually tend to be more expensive, but thanks to Penrith's outstanding public transport links, you may discover a more affordable independent hotel a bit further afield that remains well connected. For those seeking to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known towns nearby, there is often excellent value for money to be found. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
