2/10 Poor
4 Aug 2019
Overpriced, hot, noisy and terrible service!
Upon arriving, there was a work crew pressure blasting paint off the building. It was loud & directly below the 1st room we were given, so we asked to be moved. Our new room was quieter during the day, but it was near the employee smoking area, so cigarette stink often wafted into our "nonsmoking" room. Also, in the evenings, noise from the restaurant disrupted our sleep until the wee hours. Calling reception to ask when the party in the hotel-owned restaurant would be winding down, we were told that cities can be loud. When we pointed out the noise was from their own restaurant, they said they'd speak to a colleague & call back, but no call ever came. We needed to be up early, so closed the windows & suffered a restless night in a VERY hot & stuffy room.
Speaking of heat, we weren't expecting AC in a 17th century building, but one might expect a 5-stsr hotel to provide fans automatically. We asked for a fan & were given one that was supposed to oscillate but didn't and which broke the 2nd night of our stay. We had to buy a fan that we'll donate before flying home.
Checking out was unpleasant; the receptionist just brusqely said bye. No, "How was your stay," etc. Then, when waiting for my car, she asked where the fan was. I told her we put it in the hall after it broke.
On the positive, the breakfast servers were pleasant & the food was good. However, good breakfast in a beautiful building cannot outweigh the absolutely awful service!
