Mission San Juan highlights

The Mission San Juan building itself is the primary attraction here. When you look at this centuries-old structure, you can glimpse into the past, as it's been largely unchanged over the years. You can even see the foundations of a larger church that was started alongside it, though its construction was never completed.

In addition to the historic building, you can hike along the Yanaguana Trail. This trail has an entrance right by the old church, allowing you to embark on a scenic adventure alongside the San Antonio River. The path is well maintained, paved, and completely ADA accessible.

Good to know when visiting Mission San Juan

When you visit Mission San Juan, there are a few things you should know. Unlike the other missions around town, this one doesn't have the old, weathered look. If you see relatively bright eggshell colouring, you're still in the right place. The mission underwent some reconstruction in 2012, so it appears far newer than its unchanged neighbors.

If you decide to trek along the trail, you'll find that it's not that much of a commitment. In total, the trail is only about 0.3 miles long. The appeal is the lush overgrowth surrounding it rather than its actual length.
