    Seoho Traditional Market is the market that opens the dawn in Tongyeong. Located in front of the Tongyeong Passenger Terminal, it is a market where travellers can have rice soup and other food in the early morning. You can find merchants moving around diligently before sunrise, so that they can put their merchandise on display in the market. Fishing boats flock to the Port of Tongyeong at dawn to deliver the fish they caught overnight, and Seoho Traditional Market is the place where they arrive. This diligent market was founded in the 1930s, at the site of the reclaimed sea at Seohoman Bay.

    Tongyeong Traditional Craft

    Tongyeong Traditional Craft, where you can appreciate crafts such as mother-of-pearl inlays and lacquerware, is located near the Tongyeong Passenger Terminal, in the Mireukdo Island Special Tourist Zone. Tongyeong Traditional Craft exhibits and sells various crafts produced in Tongyeong, such as Tongyeong-style mother-of-pearl lacquerware made from abalone, conch, and seashells from Tongyeong, traditional gat (men's' horsehair hat), Tongyeong-style wooden tables, and fans.

    Tongyeong-style mother-of-pearl lacquerware has a 400-year tradition and is characterized by its mysterious colours and colourful patterns. Tongyeong Traditional Craft also introduces visitors to the story of craftsmanship in Tongyeong, including works by the Holders of Important Intangible Cultural Properties. Tongyeong also had what was called 12 Crafts, a type of military workshop that produced various items for the Joseon Navy, such as fans, gat (traditional horsehair hat), paintings, furniture, arrows, lacquerware, saddles, and shoes. As stories of its quality spread across the Eight Provinces of Joseon, it is said that Tongyeong became renowned for its craftsmanship.

    Geobuk Market, also called Bukshin Market, is easily accessible as it spans Mujeon-dong and Bukshin-dong, the downtown areas of Tongyeong. There is a large supermarket nearby, so you have a wide variety of choices in the things to buy. Parking facilities are also available for the convenience of visitors. If you arrive by car, it is better to use the north gate, which has more parking spaces compared to other entrances.

    Geobuk Market is lined with old-fashioned confectionery shops selling puff pastry and other delights, vegetable stores, fish shops, and fish cake shops. Out of the 148 shops in the market, about half deal in seafood. This is the place to purchase fresh oysters, squid, clams, mussel, cutlassfish, moray eel, prawns, octopus, and more. As the gateway to Tongyeong, Mujeon-dong is a downtown area with major government offices including city hall, tax office, and post office, as well as large shopping malls, accommodations, and entertainment establishments.

    If you are in need of seafood, you can go to Geobuk Market, and if you are looking for manufactured goods, you can visit a large supermarket. There is also a small convenience store next to the traditional market. After shopping, you can also visit Mujeon-dong Beach Park to come face to face with sea pines and enjoy the breeze. After the walk, stop by the Tongyeong-style pubs in Mujeon-dong, where your beverage order comes with snacks.
