If you’re looking for unusual things to do in Mazatlán then you’re in for a real treat. This Mexican resort city is so much more than its palm-fringed beaches, big-game fishing and Zona Dorada nightclubs. If you venture off the tourist path, you’ll stumble across picture-postcard colonial towns, rustic restaurants festooned with bougainvillea, cutting-edge surf schools and time-honoured mezcal distilleries.
A 2-hour flight from Mexico City, Mazatlán is a Sinaloa enigma that reveals itself, layer by layer. Intrepid travellers love the city for its many secrets that only the locals have told them about. No wonder its affectionately nicknamed ‘The Pearl of the Pacific’.

Punta de Clavadistas (Divers Point) is unlike anything you’ll see in Mexico. This 4-story coastal platform draws crowds thanks to the local daredevils who perform jaw-dropping swan dives from it, 4 times a day, into a treacherous patch of shallow water.
For those who care to watch, the show is simply spectacular. Meanwhile, the faint-of-heart can hide out in the nearby La Jaiba Pata Salada, a breezy thatched beach shack that dishes up coastal Mexican cuisine like shrimp chimichangas and grilled red snapper. Alternatively, take photos of the fabulous Monument to the Continuity of Life, a contemporary art sculpture located on the waterfront, which features a golden man and woman standing atop a seashell.
