Bedugul is a popular highland resort area in north-central Bali. This cool, forested upland neighbourhood is home to the Beratan mountain lake, with the iconic Ulun Danu Beratan temple on its western shore. It’s on the central island route that leads you to the town of Singaraja and Lovina Beach and is often included on tours to North Bali. Bedugul is a popular holidaying and weekend destination on its own, offering cool retreats with beautiful nature views. The entire area makes a nice break from the sandy coasts.

Highlights of Bedugul in Bali

At around 1,500 metres above sea level, Bedugul has a pleasantly cool climate. The highland resort covers 4 main villages – Candikuning, Pancasari, Pacung and Wanagiri – all of which are farming communities that produce most of the fresh fruits, vegetables and spices distributed to markets, hotels and restaurants across Bali.

The lakeside slopes around Beratan, including the neighbouring lakes of Buyan and Tamblingan, have strawberry farms where you to pick your own strawberries by the kilogram. You can find fresh produce, flowers, local snacks and craft items at the bustling farmer's markets of Candikuning and Pancasari.

A must-visit in Bedugul is Bali Botanic Garden, which covers a total area of 1,575 sq km. This natural sanctuary has beautiful ponds and water gardens, leafy pathways, greenhouses and orchards. Popular among adrenaline junkies, Bali Treetop Adventure Park has 6 treetop circuits of zip lines, rope bridges, and Tarzan swings.

Accommodation is available within Bali Botanic Garden if you’d like to spend the night here. For a great golfing stay with world-class facilities, there’s the beautiful Handara Golf & Resort, northeast of Beratan Lake in Bedugul.
