The host (Yoshiko) is such a sweet woman. She picked up our luggage at the train station and took them to the house as we toured around Nikko. She then did the same (took our luggage to the station) the day we left. She is very welcoming, kind and funny. We had a great conversation with her when we checked in. Her house/hotel is great - a nice traditional Japanese home, which was good to see after staying at a Western hotel in Tokyo. There is a beautiful, tranquil attraction just about 10 minutes walk straight out of the house towards the west (Kanmangafuchi Abyss - you gotta see this place). Highly recommend staying at Nikko Cottage FU-SHA! Thank you, Yoshiko!

If you want a local traditional experience, this stay does not disappoint. The house has everything you need and is located on a very quiet street away from the main roads. Only a 2 minute stroll to the river for som nature. As a bonus, the host will greet you at the train station and provide a ride or ferry your luggage back to the house while you venture off to the shrines. The host will also shuttle you back to the station when you depart. Special note: there aren’t many restaurants near to the house for evening dinner. So if you plan to walk the 20 minutes from the shrines to the house you will have the option of buying some groceries at the convenience store or check out the Suien Chineses restaurant a short distance from the house. The food and service was fantastic!

Fabuleux
La maison est très bien située, dans un endroit calme de Nikko tout en étant centrale pour explorer les alentours. Notre hôte a vraiment été très sympathique, disponible et de très bon conseil. Ce fut le meilleur moment de toute nos vacances au Japon.

We absolutely loved staying at the cottage! Yoshiko is an incredible host, going above and beyond in every way to make sure you have a comfortable stay. She picked us up from the train station and dropped us off, and spent time explaining the history, culture, and sights to see in Nikko. The cottage is in the perfect location, quiet, near the Daiya river, and walkable to many shrines and cultural sites. It's also walkable to many delicious local restaurants! We would definitely stay here again, we have a friend in Nikko. Highly recommend!!

A perfect stay. Lovely traditional home in a quiet location near the river. Yoshiko is a delightful host - she picked us up and dropped us off at the train station, and provided us fresh bread, yoghurt, juice and fruit. Cottage is right near the start of a lovely walk along Ganman ga Fuchi Abyss past the Jizou statues. 15 minute walk to the Toshogu Shrine. Highly recommend this place!

Amazing host, an authentic and memorable stay
We had such a phenomenal stay at Fu-Sha Cottage. The owner Yoshiko is the real magic of this place; she went truly above and beyond and made our stay one of the best we had in Japan. She was communicative, helpful, and fun to be around. Her English wasn't perfect, but she really put in an earnest effort and we were able to communicate without too much of a problem. Yoshiko was even kind enough to pick us up from the train station and drive us a round to a few of the sights. She made a fantastic recommendation to a local restaurant one night, which we likely would have missed if we were traveling on our own. Her warmth and hospitality really made this stay special for us. The property itself is small but well appointed. It's in the traditional ryokan style and located in a quiet neighbourhood by the end of town. We walked into town and to the nearby temples without issue. I estimate it was about a 15 minute or so easy walk. Every morning Yoshiko had a nice little breakfast prepared for us including fresh bread, strawberries, yogurt, and teas. There was a washing machine there too, which we found helpful being on the road. We found the pillows quite hard at Fu-Sha (traditional pillows?), but it otherwise it was a lovely stay and one we will cherish. We would highly recommend this hotel if you're looking for a more authentic, local experience in Nikko. Thank you Yoshiko for your hospitality.

Our stay was perfect, we really enjoyed the place, very clean, very organized, lots of foods / snacks provided by the owners. They think about everything, we have two small kids and they provided one kid bath towel for my son (blue) and one for our daughter (pink)! The owner also took us to Toshogu Shrine and picked up us to get back to the house, very polite and very kind!!!!

It was so nice to stay in a neat little Japanese house and the pickup/dropoff from the train station by the host was very welcome. The house is in a great spot and easy walk to the main bus that takes you around all the Nikko sights to see. Its also an easy walk from some of the best temples. Loved it.

Best location and best host
This little place is great for exploring the nature side of Nikko as well as it’s shrines and historial spots! The house was warm, clean and it had a great variety for breakfast! We slept comfortably after a full day of activities. Convenient to the bus and other must-sees in Nikko! The host is more than gracious. She help us out in a time of need. She’s warm and very friendly. We were very grateful for her help. Don’t hesitate to stay at this place if your looking for a place to stay in Nikko!

FU-SHA is an older Japanese-style cottage. Location across street from owner’s home, and minutes walk to amazing river & Kanmanga-fushi Abyss. Serene, beautiful, sacred area. 15 min walk into Nikko town, shrines, famous bridge, and 20 minute walk to both bus/train stations. Cottage is simple, warm, & comfy for those able to sleep futon-style. Bathroom, spacious and efficient. Small kitchenette: refrig, micro, teapot, toaster, dishes and utensils, clothes washer/dryer; no oven or cooktop. Functional for our group of three. Sleeping spaces: one Japanese tatami room w sliding partitions, one raised dining area w futon for sleeping, one outer tatami room for luggage. Host provided small extra table and western-style chairs for our stay. Also provided additional futon layer to soften the matt for one who needed more pad. Nikko is a great area to stay and explore. We would return, allowing extra days to go further. The true and special gift of this lodging is the hostess, Yoshiko. We literally spent hours with her, delighting in her company, sharing stories and heart. She is a tremendous host, and a special human. She provided transportation for us many times, helped us navigate restaurants and train tickets, fed us generously, laughed with us, sharing her dear heart, and generously looking after all of our needs, and more. FU-SHA cottage is not just lodging; it is a full heartful experience. Thank you Yoshiko. You are a treasure.
