Ortigia
Ortigia's ancient limestone streets tell 2,700 years of Mediterranean stories through every weathered stone. Greek temple ruins stand beside a stunning Baroque cathedral, while the 13th-century Castello Maniace guards this tiny island's tip. The mystical Fonte Aretusa freshwater spring creates a papyrus grove right beside the crystal-clear Ionian Sea. Waterfront trattorias serve fresh seafood and Sicilian classics while you watch fishing boats bobbing at sunset. The compact 1km island is best explored on foot through narrow medieval lanes. Historic palazzos converted to boutique hotels offer authentic stays with sea views from wrought-iron balconies.
Neapolis
Step back in time at Syracuse's Neapolis, where ancient Greek and Roman civilisations come alive through remarkable ruins. The Greek Theatre carved into limestone hills offers stunning harbour views, while the Roman Amphitheatre reveals gladiatorial heritage. Don't miss the Ear of Dionysius cave where whispers magically amplify, or the Paradise Quarry gardens blooming with Mediterranean flora. Getting around requires walking on uneven ancient paths, with limited bus service connecting to Syracuse centre. Pack a lunch or visit the small café near the entrance since dining options are minimal. The archaeological park closes at sunset, so plan your visit during daylight hours to fully experience this extraordinary outdoor museum.

Santa Lucia
Santa Lucia delivers an epic history lesson with every step through its honey-colored streets. The ancient area showcases Greek ruins, the legendary Tomb of Archimedes, and the stunning Church of Santa Lucia alla Badia with its soaring dome. Colourful fishing boats bob in Porto Piccolo while the Ionian Sea provides a sparkling backdrop to centuries of Mediterranean heritage. Traditional Sicilian trattorias serve fresh seafood along the waterfront promenade. Stone-walled boutique guesthouses and converted palazzo B&Bs make perfect bases for exploring this walkable historic quarter. The limited public buses mean you'll mostly discover Santa Lucia's treasures on foot, which is exactly how this ancient place should be experienced.

Grottasanta
The Grottasanta neighbourhood offers attractions, such as Pista Ciclabile Siracusa and Ionian Sea.

Acradina
The Acradina neighbourhood offers attractions, such as Ionian Sea and Capuchin Quarry.

Ortea Palace Hotel, Sicily, Autograph Collection
"Great location just over bridge in Ortigia…sweltering hot so no interest in sauna when you can get same results outside so amenities were not used Unfortunately pool is in basement level and no outdoor or rooftop lounge, and no hotel organized tour services or beach lidos."
Palazzo Artemide - VRetreats, SLH Collection
"Absolutely magnificent stay!!!! Surprised no turn down service but otherwise zero complaints!!!"
Algila' Ortigia Charme Hotel
"Best hotel we stayed in Sicily; well located, clean, and comfortable."
Lanterne Magiche Ortigia Suites
"Beautiful hotel excellent location, problem parking if you’re renting a car, you will be walking at least 10 minutes after you park"
Domus Mariae Albergo
"Perfetto"
UNA Hotels One Siracusa Wellness & SPA
"It’s a really beautiful hotel. Great staff, great food, AC works, beautiful spa. It’s in central place but not in the midst of all the chaos at the same time!"
Hotel Parco delle Fontane
"Very nice hotel outside of busy area but easy to access downtown Ortigia and Siracusa Unfortunately was only there for one night but pool looked wonderful and historic ambiance in hotel was interesting to see. Parking was free and breakfast was wonderful with so many options! Will definitely revisit when I’m the area again!"
Grand Hotel Villa Politi
"The rooms are really nice, smaller than pictures, but nice. View was ok, small porthole in a Concrete wall. Pool was great, breakfast was amazing. Staff are very friendly and attentive. We had a car so it was 7 minute drive to parking outside Ortigia every evening plus we did day trips to Noto, Catania, Marzemeni, Brucoli. Parking was easy and convenient. Great value for the price. I would stay again. We rented a self captained boat as well, coast is beautiful, and we ate every night in Ortigia. We split our time between Syracusa-Ortigia and Taormina."
Eureka Palace Hotel Spa
"The room was spacious, very clean, balcony was huge with a view over the front of the hotel. The staff were very friendly. Particularly the resteraunt staff. Veronica was very helpful with the menu and very courteous. The food was excellent both for breakfast & Dinner. A minor observation was that the power sockets in the room required a different adapter, not supplied , we had to loan from reception. Also there was no tea making facilities in the room , we had to ask for this from reception, and inconvenience rather than a complaint, we should of been told of this on checking in. The Bars both inside & by the pool were not operational., throughout our stay. Overall it was a very nice hotel oh and the pools were very good & well maintained. Anyone who may be planning to go there should be aware that it's a remote location, no local transport whatsoever. Imperative that you need a car. There is no shuttle bus available. A taxi cost £60 to the town. I don't think I've been over critical, but I hope this review helps you as a potential visitor."

4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Syracuse
- Book for the cheapest times: The most budget-friendly time to visit Syracuse is during January, February, and November, when hotel prices tend to be lower. For those wishing to fully immerse themselves in the city’s historical landmarks, cultural attractions, and archaeological sites, a stay of at least 3 to 4 days is recommended. This duration allows visitors to explore significant monuments, vibrant cafes, and the breathtaking ruins along the coastline, making it a great value for money experience. With the possibility that prices may drop during these months, it’s an excellent opportunity for any traveller on a budget.
- Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: To discover great savings on hotels in Syracuse, start by exploring the Deals or Last-Minute Deals sections on Hotels.com, where you may find discounted rates as your travel date approaches. Consider enabling email alerts or push notifications to stay informed about flash sales and special last-minute promotions, helping you secure the best hotel deal. Additionally, the Smart Shopping tool available via the app allows you to compare hotel prices and amenities, ensuring you're more likely to see the best prices. If rooms become available or prices drop, you’ll be among the first to know, perfect for a spontaneous getaway.
- Be flexible with dates: Prices may fluctuate due to factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year, so having some flexibility with your dates could help you save on your stay in a Syracuse hotel. For those seeking distinctive experiences, boutique hotels often provide a more personalised touch and may offer better value. When you book with Hotels.com, we’ll inform you whether the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. If the price is on the higher side, we may suggest more affordable dates, increasing the likelihood that you’ll secure a better deal.
- Consider your location: Hotels situated near the city centre usually tend to be more expensive; however, thanks to Syracuse's excellent public transport links, you may discover a more affordable independent hotel a bit further out that remains well connected. For those wishing to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known towns nearby, there is often great value for money to be found. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
