Hotel 81 Changi suited my needs very well. I was passing through Singapore, having a 30 hour layover. My room was not large but was clean and quiet. The hotel is located about 400 metres from a metro station which in turn is about 20 minutes from the airport. The front desk staff were very helpful.

Spoiled by roaches

The staff were friendly, and the facilities were reasonable... But the room had cockroaches!!! It was not noticeably unclean, but I encountered 3 different cockroaches, including one which crawled up my neck in the night - not a restful experience at all.

NOISY. Aircon was extremely noisy and stopped me sleeping, plus room looked out on to main road - ask for room at the back if this will bother you too. Very conveniently located though.

Hotel 81 Changi is what it is: a budget hotel. Do not expect anything but a place to sleep. The rooms are small but adequate. No issues with the beds or the room service. The bathroom was a bit smelly, but I think that was because of a Crain on the floor. There is a bath and handheld shower. There was no shower curtain, and the main bathroom floor was a wet room floor. They expect "spillage" from the shower, thus the main drain. Good area and good local food all around, including a coffee stall. Good transport links. A bus stop right outside, and MRT is pretty close. I found it pleasant to stay there.

It is definitely an outdated establishment and nowhere close to the airport. There are a couple of hawker centers outside but not as appealing. My kettle did not even have a cord to plug in. The towels were old and torn. The sheets were so thin and the AC was on full blast all night. I was unable to adjust the temperature so I had to sleep with layers on. It felt more like a hostel rather than a hotel. The whole ambiance was clinical at best.
