8/10 Very good

The hotel was being renovated while we stayed there so I hope that it gets updated nicely. The rooms are a bit outdated. The door in my bathroom was broken. But it was a convenient location to get around to all the sight seeing places in San Diego.

The property itself was very clean, the room was clean, parking was safe, they're still under construction, and renovations. The elevator was working. The only thing that I can say negative is that the walls are not sound proof, there was a man in the room next to mines, yelling all night and slaming things, fighting I couldn't sleep all night. I can compare this hotel with a motel 6. The only difference is their amenities. They also charged me for the room in advance and after I arrived they took $100 more as "deposit ", which supposedly will return to me in 7 days.

Nice stay, would've been better with a fridge and microwave, renovations were going on. Would be nice for an update when booking rooms.

Pool and hot tub were not open so that was disappointing but staff were great. Breakfast was a little slim but workable being it was included.

Such a great hotel and excellent customer sevice! Very accessible, clean, and it is in a quite area. The staff at the front desk were phenomenal (cant remember names) as well as the housekeeping. Despite the ongoing rennovations everything seems great! Breakfast ia good but we opt outside as we are exploring new places to eat. Definitely recommend this to my friends ans will come stay here again when back in SD!

Old hotel undergoing renovations, no pool or hot tube available due to renovation. Can tell its an older building but the rooms are clean.

The Alcala, formerly known as The Riverleaf Inn, is definitely an underrated hotel gem in San Diego. With new management and newly renovated facilities, I couldn't be happier with the stays I have had. While its location may seem a bit off the beaten trail at first glance, it's literally a 15-minute drive away from just about everything San Diego has to offer. The upgraded rooms, new 24-hour common dining area, as well as a continental breakfast that has a myriad of options from delicious waffles to easy grab-and-go options like string cheese and yogurts, have been welcomed surprises. The new management has definitely done wonders for the aesthetics, overall comfort, and security of the hotel, but my main reason for staying here has always been the exceptional staff.
Raul, the morning front desk manager, is an integral part of this hotel and exudes professionalism, patience, and flexibility when dealing with patrons. He is wonderful, not only to chat with when checking in or out, but also goes above and beyond to meet the needs of the people staying at the hotel. He is a huge reason why I keep coming back to this hotel and has always made me feel welcomed and appreciated.
The house staff is diligent and professional, and I appreciate all they do.
I highly recommend The Alcala Hotel for anyone looking to stay in San Diego. Raul and the rest of the staff will definitely make sure your stay is comfortable, safe, and enjoyable.

Clean room, everything is new, great staff very friendly and welcoming. The showers had great pressure and very warm/hot. This is my second time staying here and it won't be the last.
