A return stay, as i said i would. Its my go-to hotel whenever im back if on a budget, at the price point, nothing to complain. Rooms are large and comes with bathtub, property has a swimming pool and within walking distance from bus stop and train station and yet surrounded by eateries. Though hotel may be a bit dated, thus it does look old school and worn out a bit but overall its a steal and value for money.

STAFF was very helpful. ROOM was a decent size for the price and location. LOCATION (Geylang, near Katong) was excellent, adjacent to so many things: 1. Joo Chiat, a trendy, low-rise historical street with lovely Peranakan architecture, cafes, boutiques, nice restaurants. 2. Multiple air-conditioned indoor malls with varied food offerings, supermarkets, medical, conveniences, etc. 3. No less than four nearby hawker centers with dozens of tasty, cheap, food stalls (mainly SE Asian). 4. Most major religious denominations represented. 5. East Coast Park (better for walking through greenways than the admittedly dirty beach). 6. And, of course, nearby MRT station with two critical lines. No more than one line change to get you almost anywhere in Singapore. Downsides are typical for rooms on a budget: e.g., bed and towels aren't the most comfortable. No deal-breakers, though.

One of the few hotels in Singapore with a pool for around S$100 per night. The second time we have stayed here, the staff are very nice, surrounded by plenty of food options. The pool is refreshing though shallow (waist height), less than a.10 minute walk to nearest train station.

Hotel 81 Tristar was in an excellent location. It was close enough to the city that we could easily travel to attractions but far away enough that we felt like we were surrounded by normal Singaporean people. The staff were friendly and helpful and the pool was a good size and clean.

For that price range, it can't get any better. Rooms are large and comes with bathtub, which is rare. Has a swimming pool and one of the most affordable laundry around. Train station is walkable, with bus stop within a short walk and surrounded by eateries. Hotel may be a bit dated, thus it does look old school and worn out a bit but overall for the price would gladly return without a heartbeat.
