Fantastic location for a nice night

Well, the location can't be beat. The people who took care of check-in, food, etc were extremely pleasant folk and the grounds were very nice...but more on this later. Whomever they have gardening does a very good job mixing the plants for color. And there were even wild turkeys hanging about! The location we stayed - the Oak Lodge, room 107, appeared to be an older building and was somewhat dark and not as decorated as it could have been...but it was comfortable for a night stay. I was surprised this was a religious location (did I miss it in the reservation app?) but they were very low-key. At check-in it was emphasized that this was a non-drug/drinking location. Not a problem for us, but could have been a surprise for some. This needs to be clear in the reservation process. Good hot breakfast but no GF bread options (like oatmeal or cheerios). No yogurt, but had dairy milk and almond milk. Breakfast area inside lacked style (more like a kids cafeteria?) but clean. There's also outdoor seating that, looking back on, we should have used. I graded the location down on eco-friendliness. The reason was the high use of irrigation for the lawns. Yes - pretty, but not proper for the location (IMO). In fact one could look up into the boulders and see the nasty scar of a fire years back. It should be converted to a more proper landscape for the area (mountains) versus east-coast yards. But the view-wonderous. Make sure you stay for some hiking.

Nice castle, rooms need some work.

Castle and grounds were great, very beautiful, very helpful staff. Rooms not so much. I am a light sleeper and they put me right next to the ice machine, I mean my door was 3 ft across the small hall from the machine, I could stand in my door way and get ice from the machine that made noise all night. There was a leak in our room under the sink and the floor was all wet. When my wife turned on the hair dryer provided in our room in the morning it blew the fuse and the electricity went out. There were no T.V.'s I did not see this in the literature saying this anywhere. So, I could not watch the game anywhere on the property. Rooms were small and my view was a rock wall. My mother-in-laws room had bad carpet and the nails were poking out of the carpet tack boards underneath. She found this out when she stepped on them. Not happy at all with the accommodations.

The best part of our stay was the environment, views, and hiking. It was so peaceful and relaxing, and the hiking provided magnificent views showing God's glorious handiwork.

    One star

We arrived earlier than check in so i was not surprised when our room wasn't ready, half an hour after check in our room still was not ready. When it was time for check-in they notified us that there was no smoking or drinking on their property, this would have been nixe information to have included on as we were celebrating our anniversary and were planning on drinking.

Glen Eyrie Castle is way beyond my imagination. It is only a few minutes drive away from Garden of Gods. The property itself is a big garden with trees, flowers and trails inside the property and rocks surrounding it. We stayed in a lodge which is really quite. The hotel provides hot breakfast which is much better than the one provided by other chain hotels/motels. I really enjoy staying in this property!

    Nice, quiet retreat location

The facility is beautiful, in a gorgeous hilly area on the west side of Colorado Springs. The grounds are well maintained with plenty of gardens and areas to relax outdoors, and the grounds have several miles of trails, including some difficult ones that bring hikers to scenic overlooks of Glen Eyrie and surrounding areas. Our room was clean and the staff was friendly and helpful, but food options on the premises were fairly limited. Fortunately the location was not far from several of my favorite restaurants in the area. I will note the facility is a conference and retreat center for the Navigators, but they were welcoming to those (such as us) not part of the group. That said, visitors should be aware that they do not permit alcohol on the property, but do not announce this policy on (It's not clear what one is supposed to do with the beer in the cooler when they don't tell you until you've paid for the room and it is already on the property...)
