Tainan has many shopping districts which are well worth a visit if you want to take a break from sightseeing. The Confucius Temple, Haian Road, Guohua Street and Zhongzheng Road areas have distinctive local features as well as a wide range of stores and restaurants.

    The Confucius Temple in Tainan is a centuries-old historic site that attracts large numbers of visitors. This has made Fuzhong Street, opposite the Confucius Temple, a vibrant shopping area place lined with beautiful coral trees. 

    Life in the Confucius Temple Shopping District around Fuzhong Street is quite local and relaxed. You're encouraged to stroll around the area and browse stores selling groceries, cultural and creative products, souvenirs, and antiques.  If you need a break, there are many corner cafes and teahouses in the shopping district.

    Guohua Street is located in the West Central District of Tainan, close to historical sites like Chihkan Tower, State Temple of the Martial God, and Chen De Jiu Family Hall. Tourists like to come here for shopping and eating, but it's also a place for locals to hang out in the bustling, prosperous business district. 

    Guohua Street has many old shops selling groceries, Tainan souvenirs, and creative cuisine. The street is always crowded, but still retains the charm of Old Tainan.

    Tainan Zhongzheng Shopping District is the oldest in Tainan, covering Zhongzheng Road, Ximen Road Section 2, Jinhua Road Section 3, Minzu Road Section 3, and Fuqian Road Section 2. 

    The Zhongzheng Road Shopping District still has the glorious appearance of the Japanese era. The well-known Hayashi Department Store is located in this area. You'll come across many old hardware shops, clothing shops, department stores, and jewellery shops.

You can find cheap food, clothing, and basic groceries, making it a good cultural and educational area in Tainan.     Cheng Kung University Shopping District covers a wide area, including Yule Street, University Road, as well as nearby streets and alleys. You can find it just behind the Tainan Railway Station.

The market is a treasure trove for Tainan citizens and tourists from all over the world. Yonghua Weekend Market is a relaxed space, which attracts many young people to come to set up their stalls. There is a lot of good-natured haggling over prices. If you don't agree on a price, just move on to the next stall.

    OH OLD! Market

    The OH OLD! Market in Tainan showcases the creativity of Tainan people of all ages. First set up by a group of adult college students, the market aims to use the "young and old co-creation" model to encourage grandparents in the community to work with young people. 

    The older generation passes on their skills, experience, and stories to the next generation, while youths teach the older generation about new business concepts and online marketing. At the OH OLD! Market, you will find the elderly selling handicrafts and handmade food together with college students.
