I frequently use the Chelsea when visiting Toronto. The accommodations are dated, but adequate. They are currently refurbishing the hotel. I've always been satisfied with my stay.

Will give it a 2nd chance next time
Not clean enough, including corridors. Could not get a good night's rest because: (1) sound proofing was bad. Noise along the room corridor, even from doors away, were so disturbing. (2) bed was uncomfortable. Pillows were flimsy, and oddly only 3 pillows for 2 persons. Worst part of our stay: Dealing with a very unfriendly and unwelcoming reception person, who was unfortunately the same person we ended up checking out with. Best things about this stay: (1) very helpful and friendly Concierge staff, especially the doorman. (2) very friendly staff at coffee kiosk / bar. (3) very convenient location. (4) nice lobby.

Don’t offer something and not follow through
The check in was a little bumpy. Never had an issue checking in at any hotel but I think it was the person working the desk might have been a new employee? It took longer than I would like. He told me he gave me a room upgrade and I was so excited. Only to be disappointed hard when I got to the room. It was exactly what I had booked and it was freezing cold as if I were outside. The bed was facing the balcony door and the tv was beside the pillows on the bed so you couldn’t lay in bed with your partner and watch tv. But you can watch the construction and I hated it. They accommodated me and switched rooms but they definitely lied about the room upgrade. Which I hate.

Security issue- amongst many other things
The door connecting our room to the room beside us was left unlocked. So we had a group of boys sneak into our room at 4:30am while we were sleeping. They also came into our room while we were out and went through our belongings, stealing money and vape’s from us. Unknown if anything else was taken. We haven’t noticed if so. There was a dirty toothbrush left on the bathroom floor when we first got there, the toilet doesn’t flush properly, and the shower did not work. At. All. I couldn’t get ahold of the front desk when the altercation with the neighbours happened, so half-dressed I had to run downstairs to get security at almost 5am. Came back to my room for them to lock the connecting door, and my keycard wouldn’t work. All over I had a horrible stay. They were accommodating and offered us our money back for our stay. But judging by this whole experience I don’t think I will be staying at the Chelsea again.
