Great layover spot close to the ferry.
We just needed a place to stay after our flight arrived at night before we were headed to other islands the next day. Staff is super friendly and helpful. 10 min walking to shops by the harbor. Breakfast was a nice, simple start to the day. If your expectations are a clean place to shower and crash as a layover, it's great. About 15 min from the airport via taxi and really close to the ferry which is exactly what we needed. If you have large luggage, I don't think you'll want to walk to the ferry though.

This was so so.
The room is very small and lots of mosquitos in room. I got more than 10 last night. But, the staff was very kind and good person. Also, price was reasonable compared to other hotels. I would recommend here, but don’t expect other US hotel’s appearance. You’ll be totally disappointed. The breakfast was also nice :)

Basic in paraduse
Basic accommodations, friendly helpful staff. Breakfast a roll with cheese, jam, fresh fruit and coffee. Rooms are sparse and beds very basic.

Good location near the harbor
It was clean and friendly and a place to stay overnight before going to the airport in the morning. Taxi was called when we needed to go out.

Poor 2.0
Do not be tricked!
Avoid this dump -- it is basically a hostel charging 3*** rates. Breakfast a joke. Bad location. No closet, chairs, table, not even a glass in the room.

Good lodge in a poor neighborhood
Bottom Line Up Front: Ahitea Lodge is a decent place to stay if you're in Papeete for a night. If you're on Tahiti for an extended stay be warned that this place is in the middle of a bad neighborhood. I stayed at Ahitea Lodge because it was low cost and had decent reviews. The lodge itself lived up to expectations. The continental breakfast was enjoyable. It was basically half of a baguette with jam and butter, coffee, and juice. The rooms were clean and had AC, and the bed was comfortable enough. Having to use a shared bathroom was only a minor inconvenience once, but otherwise not a problem. The operators unfortunately do not speak much English. There is no place to park a rental car as far as I can tell. The neighborhood sucks. I wanted to experience Tahiti without breaking the bank. I figured I could walk around the closer parts of Papeete, enjoy whatever was nearby, and pay for excursions as necessary. The walking around part was not fun. Ahitea Lodge is buried deep in a residential zone, and the nearest intersection leading out is constantly occupied by groups of tough guys who I was later informed were "just" drug dealers. I had to leave the lodge to get food, and walking through that neighborhood made me nervous, especially with all the stares I got. I was never out after dark. When it came time to checkout I got a cab, even though the dock is only 4 blocks away. If you want to stay someplace where you are free to ramble about I recommend staying someplace else.

Noisy but friendly
Noisy as you can hear everything from roosters to neighbors We arrived late and were tired but were woken up very early by the noise. Staff is very friendly.

It was a nice stay, quite basic, I enjoyed it. It was a bit out of town, good base if you had a vehicle, otherwise it was a 15 minute walk to the seafront. Very nice pool. Plenty of tables and chairs. Very relaxing atmosphere. Supermarket close by that also sold some hot food and seating to eat it.
